    UVUVUVUVUV..... is it effective?

I was the one who posted about dwell time for parasites. The UV flow rate needed to kill protozoans is impractical for use in a home aquarium. UVs are great for algae and bacteria, but the slow flow required to kill ich is so slow, that the parasites are reproducing faster than they are being...

yellow and sailfin not getting along

I have found that tangs of the same genus shouldn't be kept together, unless its a very large aquarium. The easy way to do this is to look at their silhouettes, if their outline is the same, don't mix them.

    some suggestions would be great!

Theresa, why not? Its a FO tank, so he doesn't need to worry about sessile invertebrates in the substrate. I'm not criticizing you, just curious as to why you have that opinion.

    Need Help

That will be tough with customs from any country. Are there any fish stores in Kuwait? If not, check into how hard/easy it would be to get permits to collect your own. The Persian Gulf is home to many of the same species as The Red Sea, and The Red Sea contains some of the nicest species in the...

    hitchhikers

I used to live in Florida, and harvesting live rock is illegal. It doesn't matter if you are taking it 200 feet from the reef to your aquarium, or shipping it to Chicago, its the same crime. Taking live rock out of The State of Hawaii is a MAJOR crime. Are you allowed to keep it at home, as long...

    Ick Questions.

Hypo works, as long as its done SLOOWWWLLLYYY, and once its down keep it there for at least a month. Personally, if you don't have inverts, and NEVER plan on putting inverts in said tank, copper is the way to go. Use a good copper test kit, and keep the copper level between a .15 and .20 for a...

    hitchhikers

The crab may eat the stars, but I am not sure. I don't know about ocean to aquarium WITHIN Hawaii, but taking live rock out the state of Hawaii is a felony. I would recommend checking out the legality of what you did, and if need be, hush up about where the rock came from.

    some suggestions would be great!

Yes on the 55 Yes on gravel vacumming No on 1" per gallon. Thats a FW idealogy, SW can't carry the oxygen, nor remain stable at that concentration. I would go closer to 1" per 4-5 gallons, but do it slowly. An important thing to remember with aquatic livestock... Most FW aquarium fish come from...

    looking in Maryland

Exotic Aquatics has the best livestock, but their prices are a little high. Aquarium Center has gone downhill in the past few years. That Fish/Pet Place is great for dry goods, but livestock is sketchy I have too many mushrooms. If you want to come to Baltimore, I'll hook you up.

Sounds like you got it covered! At home I use Instant Ocean. At work, we make our own seawater- Carbon filtered tapwater, NaCl, Mg chlor, Ca chlor, etc. in 128,000 gal batches. How do you mix dry salts? Do you make a 150 gal mix each time, or do it in bulk?

Excellent, that will work. Have you considered a backwash recovery system? You will be able to clean your filters without doing large water changes. It is an auxillary sump with a small sand filter. You backwash your main filter to the sump and use the second filter to pull out the particulate...
