not sure on the yellow, but i know the purple ones are photosyntesious(sp?). some need to be fead with food like micro-vert, and others just use good lighting rick

all mine get most of thier food from my lights (2X65 WATTS). I will give some a piece of shrimp once a week or so, but they do ok without the shrimp. rick

my tank cycled in a week, i tested everyday. but i wanted to make sure and recycled with 3 dead shrimp. this time the cycle took 1 1/2 weeks. been 18 months, and not one bit of amon. or trites in that time. so yea it can happen. but unless you have been testing, i would add some dead...
