    Thoughts on LED lighting

You're not limited to specifically this brand of LEDs. There are a couple more out there suited for our tanks.

Actually, tomorrow I hope to make some progress. Today I soldered up one of the driver circuits, and tested it out. A couple issues came forward pretty fast with the LM317. First off, by design, the LM317 driver drops 3 volts. Hence 5 LEDs in series instead of 6. This voltage drop also...

wow so besides the looks what additional fuctionality is there?

As far as the look of the new system, I kinda like it.

Bright enough to give myself a migrane when testing the individual LEDs. A similar setup on another forum has proven the PAR values equal to 250w MH's. With optics, it's speculated that would go up to 400w MH's. Also, the setup I'm mentioning is only 48 LEDs total. Right now I have 50...

    Diy led

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. Figured out why it was burning the insulation. I was putting the solder in too fast. My next solders are much cleaner. Also, I can already tell the heatsink is doing it's job. The solder is cool to the touch SECONDS after I pull the heat away. As well as the...

    Diy led

Well it's getting closer and closer. Tomorrow I'll do some work on it before I head to work. Maybe. I have a pretty important midterm on Thurs. Friday I for sure have off of work, so hopefully by then my last resistors will come in and I can start soldering up the driver circuits. Once...

Got the first half of the LEDs on the heatsink. Tomorrow I'll get some more wire to solder them together. I've got an essay due tonight otherwise I'd try to get them done. Still waiting on my POTs, resistors, thermisters, and the blues.

    Another Tank: 90 gallons

Thanks. I added a pistol shrimp/goby pair. They've been scaring a lot of critters out of their hiding spots. That's how I caught the bristle worm so easy. I have these new little worms I have to identify now. The corkscrew to swim around, yet when the grab ahold of something, they stretch...

Caulerpa brachypus- came in as a hitchhiker on some live rock pieces Caulerpa nummularia- LFS gave me a little pinch of this stuff. Had the fuge lights on for 36 hours to get some good growth out of it at first as I knew I would have a hair algae problem. Ulva lactuca- I only have a small...

    My new 80 gal.

I had a green fuzzy mushroom on a snail shell for almost 3 months in my 20L, and suddenly it just decided to release. I guess some things you just can't figure out in this hobby. Since then I've been treating it like a baby and finally got it to reattach. Now if it was anything else I'd be...

    75 Gallon Reef (LifeReefer)

Dang that's too bad to hear. BUT! Your pictures are amazing. The frogspawn/clown pic is awesome. Also, I have the same red zoos as you. when they grow out they look SOOOO much better.

I really need HELP! Clown fish laid eggs, parents died

Also, the eggs should not be exposed to air ever! If they where transfered to another tank via pulling the rock out, bye bye eggs. In all reality, I highly doubt any will hatch, let alone make it to meta.

    Corner Loving Clown

all seems fine to me. Just remember with clownfish, they call the CLOWN fish because sometimes they just act funny. My WC Female used to literally create a bed every night in the corner of the tank in the sand to sleep in.
