literature out there - also QT question

I am in the midst of setting up a QT tank and had a rather simple and ignorant question about cycling. If I use say, 15% of the water in my main tank to fill up my QT tank, than won't the QT tank already be cycled? The water will have the necessary bacteria - just as it was in the main tank...

Aiih...I'm a bit relieved someone answered..... I have a 10 gallon, with CC, and a Mini Penguin filter (the smallest one) I have a crappy Tetratest Nitrate tester that isn't very accurate, but is telling me that the nitrate levels are at less than 12.5 mg/l. Salinity is at 1.025, temp at 81...

    Fuzzy white spot

Hey BeachBum, Did you get any new info on your problem? I'm having what I think is the same issue with my percula and pseudo. Each fish has about 5 spots, only on the fins, that are about the size of a salt grain - but irregularly shaped, fuzzy, and white. It doesn't seem to be affecting them...

    Frogspawn gonna die?

I thought it might be a sweeper tentacle, but it's coming out of it's mouth....is that normal? Goniopora is 5 months old. Check the trading forum for a full description. I have had no experience in shipping any kind of live item. I would much rather prefer to drive it or have it picked up. I...

    Frogspawn gonna die?

I have a 4 month old frogspawn that doesn't look so good right now. When I came back from work today, I noticed that there is a 4 inch long thread like string hanging out of the mouth of the coral. Also, it looks a tad bit deflated. Any ideas? By the way, anyone in Illinois looking for a...

    goniopora / illinois

Is there anyone in the Illinois area that is looking for a nice Goniopora/Flowerpot? I have a 10 gallon tank. When completely retracted, the hard shell is approximately 3" wide. However, when fully extended, the arms make the Goni over 8" wide. As you may have guessed, this is entirely too...

lfs dedicated to just swf and coral

Hey all, I live in Evanston and make frequent trips to LFS's around here. Here is my 2 cents after having gone to each of these LFS's over a dozen times. Old Orchard - Best Invert selection, well knowleged staff Way overpriced corals, small fish selection Living Sea - Best fish selection...

    water needs to sit!!??!?

each water change is about 15 - 18%. I guess everything looks great. Corals are looking extremely turgid and vibrant in color. Yeah, I'm convinced that the tap water at my apartment is stellar or something. Every time I bring tank water to the LFS for examination, they tell me that all the...

    water needs to sit!!??!?

I've had my 10g tank for about 3-4 months now. And I have been doing water changes bi-weekly. I had no idea that you had to have the water change water sit for 24 hours. I've been using tap water, with aquasafe dropped in, salt mixed in, vigorously mixed by hand, and added to the tank 10...

    tiny white anemone

after searching through other posts, I have a feeling that these aren't aptasia. They are clear and white, as opposed to brown. They don't really have a base, they seemingly grow out of these hard protrusions of the shell, and only tentacles are visible. I'll get a picture up as soon as i can.

    tiny white anemone

I recently purchased a small toadstool that was grown inside of a mollusk shell type thing. Anyway, upon further inspection, i realizd that the outside of the shell has three distinct areas, where in each, there exist these tiny white anemone type creatures. They look like any old generic...
