I have a 5 inch DSB. When i first setup my tank my LFS told me that playsand from home depot would be good, so i got some and the bag said the sand was screen, wash, and silicia free. I also add 2 inches of LS to cover up the tan color of the playsand. The tank has been up for 8 months now and...

I recently setup a sump/refugium and i added some cheato and in 2 weeks it has fill the whole refugium area. So how much do you prune off? Do you just rip a little bit off and throw it away? Also would you put a phosphate reactor where the overflow is or where the return pump is?

SORRY BUT YOU NEED TO TOSS IT. THEY ARE JUNK. But if you wan't it to work some what cut the inner riser tube in the collection cup,drop a wooden air stone in there and change the little knob with a better one (the one that adjusted the air flow).

im also new to the sock in sump thing. Can't you just turn it inside out a spray it with a hose? or does this not get it clean enough?
