    210gal riddled with aiptasia,Help!!!

I've heard that peppermints can go after corals after they run out of aiptasia: true? Also, won't their eating just spread the suckers? Any bits left on these guys just spawns more baddies...

    Diatoms?

What sort of snails? I've recently had all my cerith vanish, and when you mention burrowing snails, it's pretty much nas or cerith we're talking about most of the time. :) I've heard that cerith are very finicky about water conditions. Of course, it could also be that the snails came...

    Tank cover

Aeration is very important, especially to maintain dissolved oxygen, get rid of co2, and maintain ph. Sure it evaporates faster... but that also helps cool the tank, and the benefits outweigh the hassle.

Why would you buffer topoff water from an RO/DI?

I think they will mostly get eaten. Pods generally feast on eggs.

Why would you buffer topoff water from an RO/DI?

Been reading more on this. According to the wetwebmedia guys, the best practices is: 1) RO/DI water will be acidic due to lots of CO2. Thus you need to heavily aerate it for 6-12 hours to drive off the CO2 and neutralize the PH 2) At this point you still might not want to add the water in as...

    Re-Cycling RO Waste

Ok, I demanded someone test, but then I got my unit and set it up to today, so I had to put my money where my mouth was. And guess what? I was wrong! sign guy wins. My incoming TDS: 120-139 My outcoming TDS: 0 My wastewater TDS....... 145 ! Ok, so not a huge amount more, but apparently, the...

LED Lighting, Has anyone seen or Used these as their Reef Lighting?

Just to be clear, these aren't normal LEDs that most people are familiar with: they are high powered LEDs, like what get used in some car headlights. I saw a talk on these from one of the guys that designs just about every kind of lighting system (i.e. they are the actual designers, not the...

Is there a big difference between an name brand RO unit and an off brand?

As long as you get a warranty and the parts are quality, it should be okay. The key thing is the quality of the RO membrane, and having goo fittings. Most of the rest of the parts are pretty standard issue.

    Turbo Snails

Oftentimes places sell turbos that are from cool waters. The reason these snails die is because they are basically boiling to death in reef temps. Their metabolism goes into overdrive, which is partly why they have a reputation as such voracious eaters. But it drastically shortens their...

Starting Remote Deep Sand Bed, DIY in bucket

THe only thing I could find on the bag was "No. 1113" It was quickcrete playsand, so I think "playsand" is the operative word. They also sell construction sand, but you don't want that. This sand was prewashed and prescreened.

    I'm this close ->

Yeah, no water changes until ammonia and nitrite are both stable at 0. It would just prolong the cycling process, if anything.

    Re-Cycling RO Waste

juice, I would think that it definately would shorten the life of your filter. The higher the TDS of the source water, the faster the filter media is exhausted, as far as I know.

Cerith snails missing, maybe dead, but how do I find them?

I still think that if hermits ate them (which would be the best death, at least for the health of the tank) that the shells would be above ground. My hermits do need shells, which is partly why I'd like to recover these if the snails have died. What sort of pellet food are you using though...

Starting Remote Deep Sand Bed, DIY in bucket

Quickcrete is exactly what I used. Not sure why it came in a different bag, but my plastic bag was 50lbs. Most bags in stores are leaking, so you can probably see the quality of the sand via that. :) It should be super-duper fine (much more fine than any CaribSea aragonite product you're...
