    Visi-Therm Heaters Are A Waste

I'm pretty sure at least some have thermometers. I have a 150watt one which will not turn on if I put it in water that is higher temp than what I've set the dial to. The small tetra thermometers are crap though. I bought one rated 50W/10gal, and it couldn't even heat up a 5gal bucket...

    Chaeto in a Canister Filter???

Needs light. Also, a tiny amount isn't going to do much good. Needs to be a decent proportion of your total tank size, with room to grow so that you can trim to cut back nutrients.

    QT Tank filtration

As long as no copper meds or anything else were used in it when it was freshwater (though this wont matter much unless you are going to QT inverts... which you probably should) it should be perfect.

Just google it and you'll find lots of good articles on sites we can't link to on this MB. :)

Help getting rid of Detrius w/ clean up crew

Pretty much nothing you list is going to eat detritus on your substrate. The shrimp certainly won't. The nas snails won't (though they will turn it over a little bit). The turbos largely won't (they don't really like to go on the sand all that often). Siphon the top very lightly when you do...

    power brite LED

I would really wait on LED systems for a year or two. The price will come down, lots more companies will offer them, and the technology is only going to improve as time goes on.

    PC lighting question

I think I have this exact fixture. I have no idea what's best for it. I was under the impression that it was a relatively low quality fixture, but I don't really know where it stacks up against other lighting options or how best to adjust color range. I do know that these days, actinic lights...

Desperately Needing To Upgrade my CUC....

Don't buy a sand sifting star ever. Simply counterproductive (they eat beneficial critters in your sand rather than crud), and they are not good animals to support in the hobby.

    Mandarin Dragonet

The other factor is tank age and stability. The older and more stable the system, the better. Dumping one of these fish in a new system, where pod cultures are likely to bloom and crash no matter what you supplement with, water quality will be funky, etc... far better to wait and have one be...

It's also worth mentioning that creating an offline pod farm is actually not that hard or expensive if you are willing to put in the time. In the right conditions (which happen to be different than most reefs), pods can grow like crazy.

    Koralia PH - what size?

I think the 2s are the best bet for you. I have a 3, and it's a bit overpowered for my 55: hard to keep it from blowing the substrate around unless you point the flow upwards, which sort of defeats part of the purpose. But Simon I see even has a 4 in his 55. How do you do that, Simon, and...

2 emerald crabs in one tank?

They will pretty much ignore each other, other than getting all "yo yo yo, what you doin here, back off!" when they bump into each other from time to time, if they even notice each other. However, they are not 100% "peaceful" to ALL life, guaranteed. Like any crab, they will eat just about...

    Which hydrometer is best?

To answer your question: hydrometers are not accurate enough for a difference between .26 and .25 between two different ones to matter. They could both be off "true" by more than the difference between their two measurements: i.e. the difference you are seeing is more likely due to "noise" from...

    dreaded tang/tank size

Seems pretty simple to me. In the wild, tangs generally patrol a territory of about 6 feet or so, back and forth, back and forth. In tanks 4 foot or less, you are basically denying them any chance of feeling like they control an area, which increases stress. This is why people recommend 6...

    Mandarin Dragonet

The main problem with this fish are its food requirements. The issue is less the tank size for the fish, and more the tank size necessary for sustaining a good population of live pods, which it eats almost exclusively, hunting them off your live rock, glass, and sand. The reason tank sizes...

Best pump for sump return for a 10 gal tank

You really only need a very tiny one for a system that size. Keep in mind that every foot of height the water has to travel reduces the gph. I'm not sure what to recommend: all my returns are mags, and I don't know if there is one low enough for this application. I'd actually sort of like to...
