    Pearlscale butterfly reef safe?

I had one for 4 years until the electricity went out for 3 weeks and it was over 90 degrees the whole time. But keep in mind, I'm good! There's no such thing as an easy butterfly, and I'd put Pearlscales and Threadfins in the middle somewhere. IMHO, they do a lot better than Copperbands and...

    Acrylic Buffing 101

Yep, #1 and #2. The wheel had a real thick foam pad and very fuzzy acrylic. Mine tank seriously gouged. Put it this way, he couldn't get his van up to the door cuz we were so busy so he dragged the stand 20' across the asphalt, the inside of the tank itself was about half that bad. It was well...

Painting the inside of a canopy

Depends on how much heat you're talking about. Ask somebody where you buy the paint. I'm thinking marine engine epoxy.

I did the big ones by hand first then used a wheel because mine was completely scratched all over.

    Keep coralline on back glass???

That's true, some people mix ground up plastic into their homeade rock for that reason.

    Pearlscale butterfly reef safe?

They will eat stony corals, but everything else is pretty safe.

    Check out this hitchiker

Yep, as birdmom said, it's a calico. Also known as "the swimming" crab. Not reef safe. They are also known to catch fish as well.

    Acrylic Buffing 101

Nice job. I was in charge of returns when I worked in hard goods at the warehouse and I could buy stuff for the net refund $ after shipping and got a 125 Oceanarium reef system for $20 that some idiot cleaned with a razor blade. It took me about 20 hours to buff out but looked brand new when I...

    Do hermits leave there shells?

I had one that would switch shells all day. He (or more likely she, gonna get in trouble for that one ) would walk from shell to shell and put them on. The craft store is a cheap place to get shells. Don't buy coated ones, and boil them before use.

Well a big DUH on my part. I was thinking "look how tiny that blue damsel is"

You can usually get The best thing to feed them for almost, if not totally free. The live rock fragments on the bottom of the lfs tanks. Go in just before they get their rock shipments and offer to clean out the tanks if you can keep the little pieces. Try to get Pacific stuff. Just spread it in...

using real salt water for tank

Seawater is seawater, the stuff you mix is artificial. Real seawater is better if you can can it from an unpolluted area. Be careful though, tiny little things that are insignificant in the ocean can multiply quickly and destroy a tank. You need to store it in total darkness for over 2 weeks for...

    Let's see those mature tanks

PonieGirl, I'd hardly call 3.5" stunted for a tomato. Their max size is 5.5', that's less than half the smallest dimension of a 20L. They rarely get over 4" unless they're in a huge tank, and a 90 is pretty big for a 5.5" max fish. I'm just wondering if a 6 year old fish would grow again when...

    Moorish Idol... Getting one.

Hey, at least you're trying to save him. At only $30 and a main character in Finding Nemo, he could end up in some 5 year olds 10 gallon night light tank.
