    First SPS coral?

Chocolate starfish falling apart but alive!

It sounds like a goner. This kind of "falling apart" or "melting" apperence is caused by hydovascular stress, or in other words, quick changes in pH, salinity or temperature. Improper aclamation is most likely the culprit. Graham

    Carnation Help

The Dendronephthya sp. is extremely difficult to keep, probably, in my opinion, the hardest coral to keep. To be honest, i've never seen/heard of someone keeping it for over 4 months. The longest i've had one was for 3 days. Know they are non photosynthic, and will need to be fed very high...

Does leaving lettuce in the tank increase nitrate levels?

If I dont feed the tangs plenty of veggies they quickly begin to nibble on ALL my corals. I doubt that would happen. But first, I would like to point out a statement about tang dietry. Lettuce, cucumbers, Broccoli, etc., are not good for saltwater fish. These human foods are very difficult for...

    "baby zooanthids?"

Are you reffering to the brown "Zoanthids?" If so, than those are really anemonia majano. They're similiar to aiptasia, although I doubt you will be able to find a biological way of defense (IE:, Pepperment shrimp) to kill them. I would recommend blasting them with a calcium hydroxide paste. Graham

    Acclimating corals to new MH

One thing to keep in mind is that a typical reef out in the wild gets its most light only 4-6 hours a day. Depending where the reef is located, some reef can receive as much as 14 hours of lighting. jauringer, Either way you choose, it should work fine. do think this may cause a problem. I...

    MH Bulbs

I agree with what Kipass stated about the radiums. When overdriven, they do have more intensity, but it can be expensive replacing them every 6 months. When they're not driven on an HQI ballast, they will last longer, although they won't be anywhere as intense as other halides. The 250wt 20,000k...

    Acclimating corals to new MH

I highly agree with raising the lighting a half an hour at a time rather than an hour. An hour can easily shock the corals. It's always best to do a little at a time. I have aclamated my corals several times this way: Start off the halides at 2 hours daily. Increase the lighting 30 minutes every...

    New frags

Hey Kip, As Mark has said, it's normal for many colors to loose coloration after being introduced into a different tank. All of my A. secale, A. nana, etc. have lost their purple tips after being in my tank for 2 weeks. From my experience, the coloration will come back after the coral grows out...
