I wouldn't worry so much about the taste... but the affect it can have on one's bowels. Sewers are full of chemicals made to disintegrate organic matter....... I took care of a 2 year old that fell down the sewer. It was one of my most horrific memories as a nurse.

Do you know what the salinity was in the shipping water was ? What do you keep your tank at? I've had shipping water come in at 1.019. What is your tank temp?

It's hard to recoup money put into captive breding mandarins (and any other fish). They aren't getting rich off that price tag. I would pay it for the better odds of getting them to eat frozen.

I have one Jake. What were you looking for as far as a comparison to the hawaiian. I should clarify first if you are talking about the sphex or the barberi, both have the common name of "Hawaiian Lionfish. I also have the barberi.

BTL, you should tell the LFS to stop letting the distributers send them. He really does have a say. An LFS in the area kept getting sent dyed corals as non-ordered items and informed the distributer to stop sending or he'd stop buying. It's the responsible thing to do on his part.

They are VERY hard to find here too. We snap some up everytime we see them.

I really like trochus. We had a bumblebee snail for something like 8 years..... I was disappointed when he died.
