    Lyretail Molly Fry

I had thought about setting up the 10 gal, keeping the males and females separated. Since we have them as saltwater, I don't think there will be a very big call for them, unless someone wants to breed feeders. It crossed my mind to do so, myself, but I don't think I can. Even baby fish are...

    Lyretail Molly Fry

Went in to feed my daughters 20 long this morning and briefly wondered what the little black thing was...until I saw about 20 others! We've only had the female for about a week, so can these be fry she was already carrying, or our male? And the next question I have..anybody interested in...

    Bristle worm attack?

Bristleworms do not attack living animals. They have no effective means of offense. Their sting does not come from their "bite". Unless you have caught one trying to BRISTLE someone to death, it was probably just a case of the blind bumping into the blind.

    Tank looking bad!!!

With MH lighting, you may need to raise those a bit from the tank surface. How has your temp been?

    Nitrates

I don't know that I've heard too many folks say they have zero nitrate, ever. Something to shoot for, but I agree that nitrates under 40 are not cause for drastic measure. Nitrates of 15 are okay. As important as it is to keep control of the nitrates, it is also important not to swing the levels...

new wrasses - calling all wrasse owners

Well, I personally worry about the sentence that you say "acclimated slowly for two hours". I don't think that's a long enough period. We do need to know your exact water conditions, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, specific gravity and temp.

    What are YOUR thoughts...

The solar system is, after all, an enclosed (we guess) system that requires balance in its components. We all know very well what happens with too much (or not enough) heat, light.. Unfortunately, there is no test kit with nicely printed instructions and color coded cards to help direct us. It...

    breeding chromises???

I have a pair of mated chromis, though they have not laid eggs yet, to my knowledge. The poor eggs wouldn't last long in my tank, unfortunately. I purchased them, just the 2, at the same time as juvies. That was the only thing I had to do with it. They have never left each others' side. They...

    have you seen this?

I have wrasse fish that push empty shells and small rocks around. They appear to do it to get at whatever yummy stuff might be under, or IN :scared: the shells. I might add that it is my belief that the shells are empty because of these same wrasse. I have seen one live hermit left, he's pretty...

    cycling

We are forgetting nitrate in this equation? When ammonia and nitrite are 0, the nitrate is not necessarily low enough to begin stocking. Before you begin stocking with living animals, ammonia has to be 0, nitrite has to be 0 and nitrate should be around 20. The last thing to spike will be the...
