Will a skimmer help cycle a tank faster?

You shouldn't have a skimmer running while you are cycling. You don't really need it for a few more weeks.

    Protein skimmer

The way a skimmer works is that very tiny bubbles are placed into the skimmer which attch themselves to small particles of waste. Since bubbles have air in them, they float and create a foam. This foam rises and overflows into the collection cup. The bubbles burst leaving the waste in the water...

    Lake sand?

Do not leave the CC in because it will eventually work its' way back to the top. Syphon the CC out into little filter bags or stockings and then use these bags to generate bacteria into your sand. Once you have the sand in your tank, place some of the bags in your filter or behind some live...

    Pods?

I tried posting more pics of it all day today but the site is having problems. I took some close up shots of each section so you can see how it was built. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a better chance.

Where is the best place to buy Live Rock?

My LFS sells it for 3.79 a pound for Fiji. That's the cheapest around here. I would rather pay a little extra to be able to pick out the rock myself than have someone do it for me.

Do you keep a journal on your aquarium?

When I first started my aquarium, I started keeping notes on everything, when I added a new fish, when one dies. I write down the levels when I do a water test. It helps to keep track of everything. Just wondering if there was anyone else who does this?

    new 12 gallon nano

I wouldn't put anymore than 2 or 3 fish in there. Maybe a couple of clowns and a goby or something. I would say about 15 or 20 pounds or rock. If you have a JBJ nano cube, what I did was put 15 pounds of liverock in the main part of the tank and about another 7 or 8 pounds of rubble rock in the...

    Pods?

I just did a search for pods on Yahoo and the first link that came up was www.saltwaterfish.com which is weird because they don't have any pods listed on their site. If they did, I would have bought the pods from them.

    Opinions on Damsels

If you plan on having a tank with just one species of damsel, you'll be ok. But if you plan on any other fish, forget it. While they may not physically kill your other fish, they will attack and stress them out which will cause them to die.

    new fish tank

You would have been better off making the 75 gal a saltwater aquarium instead. You can never really have too much lighting. Sand would have been a better choice over CC. I just switched to sand myself. It looks a whole lot better. I would put the powerheads in now if you have them. You want to...
