If it is a single canister type filter...chances are it is probably some sort of carbon block filter. If this is the case, phosphates, nitrates and silica will pass though it.

Seems like there is a very long span between the supporting posts on either end. What is the length of the tank? Maybe a couple of verticle supports on either side, or in the middle between the center, front two doors.
