    I've become desperate for answers...

Scotts... I will maintain that no one entrusted you or anyone with a life. The local fish store, or other retailer of any animal more then likely sold the animal to you for one purpose, to make a buck as would be the purpose of their maintaining a facility of some sort to conduct such business...

    seahorse confusion??

They injest air by swallowing it...bouyancy problems are usually associated with the pouch. But as with all live creatures...some are not so bright at times and will mistake an air bubble for a vittle....I have lost a seahorse before due to air...i resupplied an airline to an existing stone, up...

    Help!

Adjust your pump via the ball valve to slow it down to where it is balanced...does the tank fill higher then normal (just to skimming level of overflow) when the sump goes dry? If not, adjust your water levels in the sump...each adjustment requires you to wait until the water has cycled through...

filter pad changes and resulting cycle

When you change your pads...you are taking nitrifying bacteria out of the system. Get pads in which you can rinse, and just rinse them in saltwater...freshwater will kill the bacteria. Also you can add an additional filter for the sole purpose of augmenting the primary filter...i.e...an...

    seahorse confusion??

With your seahorses, they need calm water, no air bubbles, tons of smaller diameter things to wrap their tales. Water concerns are the normal params, paying more attention to the nitrates...someone mentioned a tall tank, not really important, unless you intend to breed. They are somewhat slow...

what is a refugium used for?

It is a refuge, a quiet, slow place for breeding, speciies only...fishy timeout, nursery, to place a fish out of the main scene, etc. Many people use it strictly as an extension of the filteration system.

    nitrites rising

Do a 10-15% water change. Monitor your levels, and adjust the water changes accordingly. If need be...change the 10-15% every two days or so. Oh and use this as a learning experience for you. Everything with marine tanks is slow and deliberate.

    PVC plumbing question!

With teflon tape applied properly, there shouldn't be any leaks, barring PVC defects in the threads or anything else like that.

    another sump question.

Thats the exact setup I have with the exception of the sump itself. I went with the Tidepool I (wish I had DIY though instead). I have the SOS draining to a ball valve, then into the sump. The Mag 7 is hooked to a hard plumbed PVC return (1/2) to a ball valve, then anti siphon, then a PVC spray...
