All I can tell you is that I've had a black sand sifting cuke for over a year now in my 75 reef and he works 24/7 cleaning the tank, mostly the sand...he kind of mops it up, consumes it, and later poops out little balls of pure white clean sand... nifty little creature and very hard working.

Umm.. I don't think you're going to be able to raise them, as noted above they have a free swim stage and they don't survive the impellers on the water pumps. Maybe you could try a set up with a well established sponge filter... then you will have to invest in some special live food I would...

I have a three year old 75 reef that always has problems with high nitrates and low alk/calcium. If I do an 10-14 gallon water change every few days (3-4 days!) the problems go away and everything thrives. If I do water changes every other week the water quality just goes on a continuous down...

6 grams in a 20 gallon tank is A LOT. I put less than that in an empty tank one time as an experimnet to raise them and it crashed the empty tank and stunk to high heaven. I would get right on the water changes and keep up on them for some time!
