Do I have bad lighting for an anemone?

dude? how do you manage those? I'd be scared to add those corals to so little light.... BTW Eel shoot for 5 watts per gallon so around 250 watts of light.

A question about adding live rock

Yes strong smell = dead things which will throw your water paramters off. If you can, visit a Fish store and look around. For as much rock as you want to buy they will usually cut you a decent deal which may save you from having disappointing rock shipped to you.

I Wanna build a 55 gallon reef tank, but where do i start?

Yeah dare i say miami doesn't have a reef near it? The chemistry of that salt water may be entirely different than say from reef water from hawaii. Not that i know much about chemistry but it just makes sense to me. And like Iechy said you don't know what "stuff" is floating around there.

    six lined wrasee compatability?

Well for the corals and anemone you need around 5 watts per gallon of light. Just the corals you want (polpys and mushrooms) 3 watts The peppermint shrimp you want may get eaten by the six line. I think.... Your goby is the new guy on the block therefore the sixline is just protecting whats...

    Why do you do aggressive?

Yes fish are pets when you spend SEVERAL thousand dollars on them. A good dog or cat costs just as much... I think some of the larger fish are very cool. A stingray would be nice to have. They look best in that 200 gallon or larger tank. I personally like the mini fish though since they...

    Astapia or what???

There are other aptasia as well i think.... The ones at the live fish store i go to looked like they were purpleish. They also didn't have so many tentacles. Then again i am color blind :) They definitely didn't look like your picture rye....

    live rock, is it Alive???

Well first of all you could buy some nice corals with 50 watts of light over that tank. BUT your live rock is technically alive. If it's any color other than white then more than likely some type of algae, bacteria, whatever is growing on it. You should see little things sprouted off of the...

    Tank Cycling

You don't want your lights on 24/7. Do a 12 hour cycle. Turn them off a couple hours before bed and right as you wake up in the morning. From what i've heard properly curing live rock is supposed to be done without the lights on for 3 weeks. I never did that and things turned out fine, so...

    Lighting question

Retro kits work with an existing ballast. The ballast is what holds the light bulbs. SOOOO if you have lights now, you can retrofit it. A dual 55 watt power compact would be great. I think you can get one at ahsupply.com for around 120ish. I think

    HOLY COW...What is this ?!?!?!?!?!?!

No you're right. I just assumed with the opening i see and the thing on the sand bed in the earlier pics it looked like a clam but now it looks like its climbing the glass. Or it learned how to magically swim......

    HOLY COW...What is this ?!?!?!?!?!?!

It looks kind of like a clam. I have one, black and brown, growing in a shady recess of my rock. Looks like yours came out to play.

    Tank Cycling

sggavin, looks like your ammonia/ph did the fish in. You need around a 8.2 ph and no ammonia. 7.8 wont hurt much in the short run but over time it can do some damage. I had the same problem happen to my fresh tank. Ammonia went high and the ph went low. Only 2 lone survivors and some happy...

    Tank Cycling

If anything your fish dying helped the cycle.... :) If you can afford i would get another 20lbs in there soon. Once your tank has its initial cycle done you can't add uncured rock to your tank without the risk of spiking harmful levels and killing more fish. Well you could... maybe a 1lb or...
