Please help! Snow delay! How long can fish survive?

There is a snow delay over here in NYC and I have to leave for work in about an hour. I'm waiting for a fed ex shipment of fish and inverts and I'm worried I won't be able to acclimate them until I get back at 10:30 tonight. Will they survive? If I receive the animals in the last minute...

    Adding fish to cycled tank.

All of them are reef safe. The only thing that might not be compatable are the hawk fish and shrimps. I had added a hawk fish to my tank and my cleaner and peppermints never showed themselves.

    30g FOWLR

Lighting is not a major factor in a fowlr but when I upgraded my 2 flourescent 30watt bulbs to 2 95watt vho there was an incredible difference. A lot brighter and brings out the color of the fish and lr. It also enables you to get some corals if you change your mind in the future. Again an...

    Bad Combination?

question 1- I personaly like the look of vho. Great lighting and gives fish and inhabitants nice look. Lighting isn't so important though because you don't have any corals requiring much of it. 2- Nothing wrong with the species combination that I see. 3- A good amount of lr IMO would be...

    Urchins..

Hello Grouperhead. Not sure which ones don't eat coraline but I have two long spined and they've been in my tank for over a year now. I have noticed them munching on some of my coraline but I still have plenty left. I've even heard that they spread coraline around. There hasn't been any...

    fish with personality?

flame hawk is the fish with the most personality and will be in sight 80% of the time(shrimps on the other hand won't). His eyes will swivel around and follow you all the time. He hangs out everywhere. Even upside down at times. Comical expression always had me smiling. Unfortunately he...

    Corals With Angels

I don't know about your angels but my newest additon, flame angel, is constantly picking on my brain. It won't open up and has made me very frustrated. I'm heading to lfs for a clip and algae sheets to try to keep him off the brain. I think it's mainly a hit or miss with these fish. They...

    Adding Another Fish?

The only problem I forsee on adding a coral beauty is the amount of lr you have in the tank now. They love to swim in and out of lr and use it for grazing algae. I'd get the lr first and then add the fish after everything has settled. Adding lr can also spike up the tank a bit, even if it is...

    last call!

I would get over a 100lbs of ls and about 75-80lbs of lr. Flake food is ideal for most fish that will live in your tank. Alternate with live and frozen brine and different formulas for nutritional value. You don't need an air pump or sponge like freshwater fish or any conditioners or...

    Aggressive???

Damn! Those guys don't even look like fish. When I saw the first pic I thought it was a lr photo. That's one fish tank I wouldn't put my hand in:D

    hair algae

I had the same problem so I went back to the basics. Less feeding, frequent water changes and changing the bulbs every 8-10 months. I got comfortable with my system because everything was working out great but when you stray away from the basics it can lead your tank to undesirable conditions.

should i put in live rock?

Even precured lr will cause a spike in your system. It depends on where you get it and how well it has been cured. When I add lr to my system I check it thouroughly. Even when it seems ok I only add a little at a time and run my protein skimmer and filter pads for added protection. How big...

    Live Rock or New Lighting?

The most important factors in coraline growth to my understanding are circulation, calcium and water quality. I'm not sure how much lighting factors in to all this. Lighting comes into play when you are housing corals and for appearence. When setting up my tank I did it the other way around...

stocking wish list- check out and give commments please

IMO you can keep a couple of more fish without having any trouble or pushing your limits. Maybe some triggers, puffers and tangs:D . Okay, maybe not. On a serious note, you should be able to house a couple of extra small fish in a tank that size. Especially since the ones you have plans for...

    Couple of quick ?'s

1- There is a formula that some members have used before. Hopefully someone else can help you out with this. 2- I don't think lighting is a major factor for coraline growth. The two biggest ingredients IMO are water movement and calcium. 3- Not sure about this one. Fish and inverts are...
