How much should I expect to pay for a MH lighting kit sufficient to run a 55 reef? I dont want bottom-of-the-barrel.

Anyone else out there in Louisiana, or Baton Rouge area that are as addicted to this hobby as I am? Even though I am only six months into it, I know I'll be a reefer for life, much to my wifes chagrin ($$) But dammit, (sorry, I like it that much) I will have the reef of my dreams!

Any suggestions on what woulb be a good fish to add to my tank, or good "school" of fish, I want some moor color?

Can you tear off peices of Starburst polyps and attach them to other areas of rock with any success? Or do they need to spread on there own?

I started out with "fish only", it was nice, however, since switching over to reef I couldnt be happier. You can still have beutiful fish in a reef tank and the whole thing doesnt have to be filled with rock. With a tank that size, you should be able to have the best of both!

im considering doing the same thing with my tank as well, the tank has been running for 8 months. Will adding another inch or two hurt the growth that is already established??

Invest in some decent lighting and you will see a HUGE difference in the lr. I had my 55 with the standard 50/50 bulb and it looked ok. After adding the VHO's, the difference is phenomenal!!

I had the same problem in my 55 and it was a phosphate problem. Are you using tap water to top off? If so, dont. I was lucky enough to have a friend with a blue tang to lend, withing 24hrs the algae was gone and the phospate removers have done their job.

I have 50lbs of nice fiji rock in my tank. What is the best cleaner I can add to help keep it looking good, it is starting to look a little "grown over"? Input appreciated!

what size power head is sufficient for a 55 reef? I need to get one and I dont want to go to large or too small. Thanks for the info!
