Soft corals vs. Hard corals

Soft corals are soft-no hard skeleton. Hard corals have a hard, calcium based skeleton. All the bleached white dead corals you see in FO tanks are hard coral skeletons. HTH, B

    berlin protein skimmer

If it's a Red Sea brand pump, the cover around the flow control comes off, then the flow control knob, then there is a twist off ring that holds the impeller cover on. If you need more help or it's another brand, post back :) HTH, B

cleaner shrimp owners - how often do you shrimps pick on polys?

I have a clener shrimp, and it does the same thing to my flowerpot. Before that it was eating zenia, I think it's time for him to go somewhere else But I can't seem to catch it. I haven't seen the flowerpot open fully in...

    Wanting Coraline on Tank Glass.

LMAO Ramey! I was saying to myself yesterday(as I spent 40 minutes scraping tiny coraline spots off the front & side glass): Be careful what you wish for It used to take 15 min. to clean the front and sides. But I'd rather...

    can gobies get ick?

I was just reading an article in the April issue of Aquarium Fish Magazine about 14 of the hardiest marine fish species. The dartfishes (Microdesmidae) are known for their resistance to disease. Decent article, if you get a chance to read it. There's also an interesting article on the plight of...

    understanding spouse

When I started my 75 gal a year ago, my girl did not understand the facination, but she lets me get away with a lot. A year later, she knows enough about the tank to keep things going during a power failure(do a search in reef forum:Three cheers for my girlfriend) She also frequents this BB, and...

What do you think of RIO pumps?

I have been running a 2500 for almost a year, and I have to take it apart to get it restarted every time I turn it off for tank maintenance. It gets loud sometimes too, but a good cleaning usually takes care of the noise for a month. My opinion: you get what you pay for, and they are the...

    RED ALGAE!!! HELP

Seachem makes a great PH buffer. it says it can't be accidentally overdosed. I've been using it for about eight months now, and it works great. Also, I've noticed other members who swear by Seachem products. HTH, B

Copepods: sign of a good tank?

Sammy's right..... My bad. I never thought about that part of it. Thank goodness for sharks. No wonder they're at the top of the food chain ;) Sorry for any confusion caused by my ignorance. B

Copepods: sign of a good tank?

Yes, definately. Copepods and amphipods are inverts, and they are more sensitive to bad water conditions than fish. But I'm not saying to go fully stock your two week old tank. Take it slow, and you'll be fine. HTH B

To those who asked why she's not my wife........

Thanks for all the warm words. We've been together three years already and she still amazes me every day, so I think we've already gotten past all the hard stuff ;) Plus, she already knows what a SW addict I am, so that's not a problem :D . Again, thanks everyone! B

To those who asked why she's not my wife........

When we lost power awhile back, and my girlfriend came to the rescue(with the flu), everyone asked why she wasn't my wife. Guess what.............. She agreed to be. her and her son are the best things that ever happened to me, and I feel very blessed to be a part of their lives. Sorry for the...
