    Just wanted to say "hi"

I'm so happy people actually remember me:D Mayo, that's a tough question. I'm a little "kennel blind" because I have Portuguese Water Dogs and I love them. They definitely are not for everyone because they are a high maintenance, high energy breed. But they are a hoot!! And they don't shed...

    Just wanted to say "hi"

Hey everyone, just wanted to say "hi" again. It's been awhile since I posted. Been very busy with all sorts of things, mostly to do with the dogs. Dogs shows constantly lately. Anyhow, I don't know if anyone remembers but the last time I posted I was battling hair algae. Well, after 7 months...

    what eats hair algae?

I have lots of experience with hair algae, unforunately, but I have conquered the problem I had. First off, my water parameters always came back excellent. PH, calcium, alk, phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, salinity, temp, etc, etc. I blame the beginning of my problem on some LR that I got that...

I didn't throw in the towel

No pics of the tank when it was at its worse. I was way to upset and was trying to decide to keep fighting or dismantle and give up. But I like to win in all aspects of my life, so I decided to fight on. I wish now I had taken pictures.

I didn't throw in the towel

Well I've been battling the hair algae problem, and I definitely have the upper hand. It took tossing alot of the LR and lost a few corals, but I have it to the point that with weekly cleaning of tank, rocks and water changes every 2 weeks, I can see the hair algae life cycle coming to an end...

Should I LOSE This Rock ?

Squid, I've been off the message board for awhile because I was so upset over my tank and what had happened to it. So first off....GET RID OF THAT ROCK!!! It is HAIR ALGAE on it and it will spread like wild fire. I introduced some to my tank several months ago on some new rock and it took over...

This is so sad to write (This is long)

Thanks for the posts back. 1. I put 4 Royal urchins in the tank. They help, but not enough. And they do take the coralline algae off also and that leaves exposed bare rock that the algae loves. 2. I bought a rabbitfish, I think he jumped out, but never found the body. 3. I do 20% water...

This is so sad to write (This is long)

The hair algae has just about got me beat. I have tried everything that I can think of, and what has been suggested. My nitrates are around 2. My nitrites are 0, my phosphates are 0, my calcium is 420, my alk is, I dunno, have to test that. PH is 8.0. temp is 76.5, salinity is 1.024 I switched...

    harlequin serpent star

Opihura will probably be able to give you more info, or do a search for them. I have one, I NEVER see it, but I know it's alive because once in a great moon a leg will pop out from under some rock.

There seems to be a hair algae epidemic

Jon, this product I'm using AZ-NO3 is also a biological product that competes for the same nutrients as the hair algae. I think that is why my skimmer is going bezerk and full of green gunk every day.

There seems to be a hair algae epidemic

I've taken note of all the posts regarding hair algae problems. Mine being one of them. Does it seem unusual that there are so many lately? or am I just more aware of them because of my problem? And, in regards to my continuing battle with the hairy algae thing.......I took down my MH's and...
