Saltwater LFS in Altoona, Johnstown PA Area

Anyone here from Central PA know of any LFS's in the Altoona or Johnstown areas? I am headed there today and would like to check for live rock. Most of the LFS's where I live are open on Sunday so I hope there is one up there that is open. Thanks in advance

    Refugia question

I would like to set up a refugia. I get the whole idea and I have come to the conclusion that if I don't need one.......I at least want one. Anything to make this SW tank go well. My question is how do I get the water to it if I don't have an overflow built into the tank? Do I have to...

    Coraline algae on base rock

Wow, thanks for all of the replies. I planned on getting live rock, but the LFS's around here don't have any with any decent amount of coraline algae on them. I was just wondering if i should get rid of my base rock. Sounds like I don't have to do that. Thanks again.

    Feather Dusters

i am new to this whole thing but how long has your tank been set up. It sounds like it is relatively new if there aren't any fish in it yet. doesn't it take a while for plankton/algae or whatever to get going so filter feeders can get enough to survive?

    Over feeding

I have two tiger muskie in a fresh water tank and there is no doubt that fish will eat in a tank until they explode. Mine haven't exploded, but I had a guy feed my fish for me one time and he said he kept putting feeders in until they stopped eating. Now that was a sorry thing to see. Two...

    Brown Diatoms-good or bad?

I think I have exactly or at least something similar to what you are talking about. I bought some turbo snails and some hermit crabs (only 4 of each in a 46 gallon tank) and in 24 hours the stuff was almost gone. Except for on the back wall. The snails won't go there very often for some...

Will coraline algae grow on base rock that I bought from Florida? And if so, does anyone have any scrapings that they would like to sell? Thanks in advance

    Hmmm, have I cycled yet?

Hey, if anyone can answer that one I would like to know if my tank has cycled yet. I would also like to know tomorrow night's lottery numbers.

    LFS in Maryland

Yeah, I know. The LFS here sells it for $9 a lb. That is crazy. I guess you go to the Aquarium Center near Baltimore. Their prices are just as bad. I guess I will be ordering online.

    LFS in Maryland

Anyone on this board from Maryland? I would like to get some live rock and holy cow is it expensive. Just wondering if anyone had any that they wanted to get rid of or if anyone could tell me where they got theirs. It just seems a little crazy to pay all that plus the shipping. I live in...

    Question

I posted my first thread about two weeks ago. I have a 46 gallon tank. I had taken my LFS's advice and put two damsels in my tank after only one week. I was then going to buy some uncured live rock and asked you all if that was a good idea. I now know that it would have been a bad idea. I...

    Live Rock from Saltwaterfish.com

Anyone bought LR from them? How about maybe someone emailing me with their true feelings about what they received. The site seems awesome and I am going to get some LR from them if I don't get any info from anyone that would make me think I shouldn't. Thanks. kline@al.umces.edu

    Brown Algae

Ok, I am waiting for my tank to cycle. I have an ammonia value of about 0.30 mg/L and no detectable amounts of Nitrite. My question is: I am starting to get some pretty good brown algae growth. Do I let this go crazy until the tank cycles or should I start buying some snails or other...

Ok, thanks to those that have given advice. I will order the live rock after returning the fish. The people here are very helpful. I am happy that I found this site.

    New Tank Owner

Ok, so it seems that I have two options? One would be to get the fish out and get the live rock and cure it in the tank and the other would be to keep the fish and cure the rock in another container. Ackermsb said I could cure the rock in a 30 gallon tupperware with a powerhead. What exactly...
