    Right temp for reef

only problem with higher temperatures is lower oxygen levels... if you are going to take your tank above 80 make sure you have enough water movement (and not too many fish) that your o2 levels will remain high enough

    SLF problems

a little off subject but.... i had a green emerald crab that nearly killed my fuzzy dwarf lionfish... it would sit in the rock and nip away at the fins... the lionfish would get hit, swim away and then re-rest on the rock because it had no idea what was going on... Lighting for SPS on a 20

inch for inch power compacts produce more wattage than the equivalent lengthed T5... just use the 20 gallon, and instead of using a prefab hood with an HQI installed, find a MH bulb, ballast, socket, reflector and hang it from the ceiling to avoid heat issues.. that will be cheaper and more effective

importance of light color temp. ?

salwater fish do not need 12,000k bulbs. FO and FOWLR tanks do perfectly fine with standard output bulbs at 6500k or less lower kelvin temp = more yellow higher kelvin temp = more blue for corals higher K will help color and lower K will help growth dont go under 10,000k for reef tanks but...

    Acrylic vs Glass

even miniscule (sp?) scratches in an acrylic tank can reak havoc.... You wont see the scratches when the tank is empty, you wont see the scratches once you fill it with water.... but then as your tank matures algae will grow in the miniscule scratches that you have never before noticed and it...

    STOP the delivery of nitrates

all of the powering on and off pumps seems like way to much time and effort to feed your fish... especially if you feed 1-3 times a day... i'd rather just not have to deal with bio-balls, to much work for not enough pay off
