    discolored damsel, please help!

I do have live rock. I have a 30 gallon tank with about 40-50 lbs of live rock and a 2 inch sand bed. I have 7 hermit crabs and about 50 or so empty shells laying in the tank.

    discolored damsel, please help!

Unfortunately I came home from school today and he was dead in the hospital tank. Am I going to have to worry about my hermits attacking any fish in the future? I didn't think they posed any risk to the fish because they would have no chance in catching one

    discolored damsel, please help!

You're right I guess it is a little bloody, when you asked if there was a wound I was thinking more of a gaping wound. Let's say for instance that the hermit crabs did cause the wound, wouldn't the fish have to be sick in order for the hermits to get a hold of him? Or if it wasn't hermit crabs...

    discolored damsel, please help!

Can a hermit crab really get a hold of my fish? They are small. I have a couple blue legged hermits and scarlet hermits. Maybe that is the case though because when I first noticed it there were 3 or 4 hermits piled on top of each other right next to the damsel. It is not an open wound just looks...

What is this abnormal coloration on my damsel?

I will try that thank you. This wouldn't pose any problems for adding any other fish in the near future would it?

What is this abnormal coloration on my damsel?

It isn't taking any food. It is very lethargic just sitting in a cave. He has come out for a bit last night and darted around the tank for a minute then went back to his cave. If it is a wound how could it be so large when there isn't anything else in the tank except small hermits and snails?

    discolored damsel, please help!

Ammonia 0.0, Nitrite 0.0, Nitrate 0.25, Salinity .025, pH 8.0. Here is a closer shot, but it is still a little blurry. The best I could describe it the red in the middle is where the scales are gone and flesh is showing and it gradually discolors out from there. I also noticed some grey spots on...

    discolored damsel, please help!

It is the only fish in the tank so I don't see how it would be getting harassed unless my hermits got it, but they are small. I do not have a protein skimmer I looked into getting one but they are expensive.

What is this abnormal coloration on my damsel?

He swam right up next to the glass so I was able to see the spot was flesh. There aren't any other fish in the tank. Is that too big for a wound from rubbing against rock? He has some grey areas on him now. Is that a bacteria infection?

    discolored damsel, please help!

won't a copper treatment kill all my snails and crabs? I've also read that if you ever do use a copper treatment it is nearly impossible to get the levels to 0 so invertebrate can survive, but i don't know if that is true

    discolored damsel, please help!

Lethargic it has just sat in a cave all day, then within the past hour or so it has come out and floated close to the bottom of the tank by the glass, then has darted a couple of times to the top of the tank then has gone back to its cave.

    discolored damsel, please help!

I have a blue devil damsel that has a coloration on the side. I have no idea what it is. It looks like there oil on top of water (kind of a like a rainbow). Does anyone know what it is and how to treat it? The salinity and water levels are fine. Right now it is the only fish in the tank other...

What is this abnormal coloration on my damsel?

I have a blue devil damsel and I noticed today when he was just sitting in his cave that there was a random coloration on his side. I tried to take a picture, but was unable to get a very clear picture, but the coloration looks like the color of oil when floating on top of water and the light...

    Everything Died

If it is salvageable why not? But after reading how lava rocks can sometimes have high iron levels, which can kill off everything in my tank I'm not going to consider keeping them in the tank just to be safe. I'll have to look into limestone thanks for the help and suggestions from everyone!

    Rocks

That is really good to know. For some reason I thought lava rock was a great rock to use in saltwater aquariums because it is porous. I will just place the rocks back where they were taken from. What types of rocks are good to use for saltwater tanks? I have about 20 lbs or live rock in my tank...

    Rocks

I recently moved into a new house. The house I moved into had several lava rocks as part of the landscape. I want to put those in my tank. What do I need to do, if anything, to make it so they are safe to add? Do I just wash them really well?

    Everything Died

It is typical lava rock. There are a lot of pores in the rocks. Some of them do not have a lot of pores, but I do not plan on using those rocks because I've heard rocks need to be porous to be used in a salt water aquarium

    Everything Died

Also I have more of the lava rock that was found, but was never soaked in bleach. What would I need to do before they would be ok to go into the tank?

    Everything Died

Thank you. I didn't even think about the bacteria in the tank and needed to recycle the tank. I will probably do that just to be safe.
