I had a 40Gal w/o a sump. I had a skimmer, 2 Maxijets 1200's and an Eheim Canister Filter and it was perfect for years. I also had a LOT of rock (about 50lbs) that helps a lot. You should be fine as long as you keep up w your water changes. Good luck!

I agree, its a two pronged approach, get some Peppermint shrimp (not camel backs) for long term maintenance. They'll eat the small polyps before they get too big and can get into nooks in the rock, plus they are really cool and can get them to hand feed. Also target treat w Joes juice or similar...

Yeah, the temp regulation would be an issue, I may just set it up with Mangroves and no fish, I would have to test frequently and check on placement....It's a cool project, I just need to hash out the details, thanks for the replies, keep them coming!
