    down sizing

I've decided to down size my 65 gallon to a 46 gallon. I left for college and came back to a horrible mess and most of my coral dead, so this year I want to take the tank with me! My first problem is getting water. Would it be better to buy it, get some filter to do r/o, or are there chemicals...

    tang fin problems

My yellow tang's fin is turning white and deteriorating. He doesn't seem sick at all but his fin in the one spot looks bad. The other fish in the tank aren't aggressive toward him either. Also his breathing seems fast, but it's just as fast as some of the other fish too.

    Elephant Snail

The white was on the center on his back and looked like the elephant slugs little shell. Sorry I couldn't get more pics... he's a fast little booger. :)

    Starting a Nano Tank

I would really like to try a nano tank, a ten gallon or less. I'm just not sure about filtration. What kind of filtration system should I get or go with and what are the different kinds. Does a nano tank need a sump or can they be kept without one? I also have a 65 gallon reef tank that is four...

    Elephant Snail

I first noticed this guy a few months ago and decided he was an elephant snail/slug. At that point he was the size of a quarter. Now he's two and a half to three inches long and two inches wide as a guess, since he stretches as he goes. He use to have a white shell on his back, but now it's not...

    very skinny worms

I guess thats what they are, but they seem smaller and less intense than the pictures and descriptions. Does anyone know something that might eat them. Would a blenny, specifically a scooter blenny? Couldn't find out what ate them other than possibly wrasses.

    very skinny worms

So these worms are very thin, thread thin. They are either red and white striped or pink and white striped. They are kind of in a group or maybe just are hanging near each other and have a hold of the rock with one end and poke and wiggle over the sand on the other end. Any ideas?

    Light problems

So all my coral took a dive and closed up and shriveled. I figured out the problems was the light, it needed to be change. I forgot all about changing them. Now all my coral is coming around but one. My giant green polyp duncan is still horrible. This is a low light coral so he did the best with...

    nitrate prof fish

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I'm going to try a few of them and look into others. Hopefully in a few weeks my tank will be a happier place. :)

    nitrate prof fish

that would cost way too much. a 65gal tank plus a 55gal sump for every large water change and little ones will add up. I already have a ton of 5gal buckets :). I was going to ask the LFS to test it because they might not of carried a test kit other than API. I have two test kits, but they seem...

    pairing clownfish

well I don't want to get rid of my current clown.... I'm glad that she's protective of the coral so I know my flame angel will never be able to nip at any of it. One more thing the clown wasn't aggressive until after it's mate died. I think i'm going to try and get the clown another buddy once I...

    nitrate prof fish

Ok so I know I have hard water, probably 200ppm. The fish store was closed so I couldn't get a test kit or have them test my water. I'm going to try again in a week on tuesday since it's almost an hour away and i'm driving by it then. but I got some nitrate (plus others) reducing stuff and also...

    nitrate prof fish

no I don't use RO/DI water, I don't need to because I have well water/spring water. It's as clean as you can get it, nothing added. I have tested it before and it's perfect, plus I've been using it strait out of the faucet for years and nothing bad has ever happenned. It is very nice to be able...

    nitrate prof fish

for the coral I'm adding (according to the bottle) essential vitamin and trace mineral supplement for reefs. specifically, vitamins A, B1, B6, and C..... Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Iodine, Potassium, and Strontium. Also, Does Not contain gluconates, phosphates, or nitrates which is good. :D I can...

    nitrate prof fish

Both test kits I used are API test kits.... they sound very unreliable. I'm going to go get a different kit brand and see what the nitrates really are. :) I used to have an uncontrollable amount of algae, but then once I got my tang and angel it was history. In my sump I have a refugium with...

    nitrate prof fish

well, the readings changed with a water change plus I went out and bought a brand new test kit and got the same results... :/ I don't put anything in the water except for carbon rocks, phosphate guard, and supplements/elements for the coral.

    nitrate prof fish

can fish become nitrate prof? supposedly I have 80+ nitrates for the past year, but nothing has died. no fish, shrimp, coral, plants, crabs, or other invertebrates have died. I did an 80 percent water change and the reading went down to 20 nitrates, but now back to 80 or more.... i can't really...

    pairing clownfish

I used to have a pair of clownfish but the female died. It's been maybe a year or more and now I'm thinking of getting my one clownfish a buddy again. The only thing i'm worried about is that my clownfish might kill the new one. I have a 65 gal. tank with a yellow tang, flame angel, yellow tail...
