What am I getting my self into. Can anyone help.

A closed loop is an external pump that draws water from your tank and pumps it right back in. This is more powerfull usually and much neater looking than powerheads. There are closed loops that hang on/over the top of the tank. AND there are closed loops, sometimes with many ports, that use...

Hello Everyone, I love this forum.

I use a canister filter(HOTmagnum) to "polish" my water. I think the problem with any canister filter is if not regularly maintained, they can cause a nitrate problem. Turnover rate sounds pretty good. If you add a sump(recommended), then that flow rate from the return pump will be added to...

How big is your display? I use water from my display to refresh the QT, then top it off with new water. THat way, I get some good bacteria in the QT and don't worry as much about a spike. HTH WHOAAAA! :scared: A tang in a 10 gallon??? How big is it?

    I am desperate!

30% of the water is a LOT to change at one time. 80% could be tragic. Take a deep breath. If the parameters are OK, then the fish are OK, then it just LOOKS bad. It really isn't bad. :joy: Smaller water changes more often. . .and welcome to the boards!

Dumbest thing you dropped in your tank?

    Purple nudi-nuff said.

    Nudibranch question....

Pretty much the same experience as corally with a purple. They eat only 1 kind of sponge and you probably don't have access to it. Lettuce nudis are supposed to eat algae. I don't think they are a true nudibranch.

If you could bring back one show...

Little house on the Prairie Waltons The Andy Griffith show Happy Days Bonanza The Lone Ranger . . . .can you only bring back one???

    Quick question...

Turn over is number of times the volume of your tank (20) is divided into the total flow of all your filters/powerhead. 20 times is a good number to achieve. More for sps coral-like 30X. Example-Filter is around 300gph and your power head is 100gph, then total flow is 400gph. The turnover...

The mandarin needs LOTS of pods every day. THere are folks on that famous auction site that will sell you pods, but you'll need a constant supply. You may consider returning him.
