    Quick question for electicians

You are right-100amp is main breaker. It will deenergize the entire panel(except the hot leads coming into the box from the meter base.) And yes--total breaker amps can add up to more than the main. THis is not uncommon. Many breaker boxes are 20 or even 40 space with a 200 amp main. 20...

How much $$ have you dished out? (so far)

Too fast - too furious - too much - to count (without crying) Just enjoy the tank! P.S. I'm reminded of those signs showing a horse eating money. . . Seems appropriate here as well.---yes we have a horse, too!

    I am so confused

The look is up to you on the amount of sand. If you are wanting it for de-nitrification, then most folks say the deeper the better. A depth of around 4 inches seems acceptable in most everyones range of "deep sand beds". It doesn't have to be 4 inches all over. It can be 2 inches on one end...

    Confused.

The combonation of aragonite sand and live rock in my aquarium keeps my saltwater at 8.2 on the money. I believe this is within the acceptable range for cichlids. Hope that helps.

    Very Important Questions !!!

You have plenty of time to research the fishes you want. AND you have come to the right place! When your nitrites are back down to 0, then the cycle is complete. Add fish slowly-allow several weeks between big changes to the "bio load" to allow bacteria to catch up. Good luck! Be patient! How...

    Quick question for electicians

I wonder how many boats have been built in a basement with the same outcome. . . I'm having a hard time summoning up sympathy for a guy with his own FISH ROOM!! Just kidding-I hope it works out.

    Confused.

I do the freshies. Protein skimmer won't work on fresh. You won't need the power heads. Emperor 300 will cover it. I don't think you can clean sand the same way you vacuum gravel. In fresh or salt, keeping the bio load way down will keep the tank maintenance to a minimum. I do a 25% water...

It does look too colorfull to be real. That's why I was asking to see if anyone actually had one. Are they THAT colorfull?? Cough-Cough Foster Cough-Cough and Smith Cough-Cough. . . I've seen other pics of real fish but they weren't like this. I know the females aren't as bright and lighting...

    Quick question for electicians

I'm not sure about code when leaving the wires inside the box. They would be completely safe the way you are talking about doing it (so long as they don't touch anything hot.) If you could cut them off short and work them out of the box, leaving them inside the wall, then the inspector...

    Lighting help!

They are cheaper than that in my area. Around $6 to $8. That large chain of department stores started by Sam Walton has them, also. They are near the flourescent lighting, usually. I have looked at a lot of lighting for aquariums. I don't recall seeing any with built in timers.

    Quick question for electicians

Remember, everything downstream from a GFCI acts like a GFCI. So keep this in mind if you don't want certain things on GFCI. If you install a GFCI breaker, EVERY outlet on that circuit IS a ground fault receptacle-for all practical purposes. A comprimise may be to use a regular breaker and...

    Hitchhiker Identifications

There is a trap made for catching mantis shrimp. Or I've read you can catch him in a given rock and just take that rock out. Or if he isn't too big, there are fish that prey on them. Good luck and watch those fingers around the mantis!!
