Small white patch on tank side

To be honest I don't know for sure if mine hatched, I scraped off several spirals when cleaning on accident, the ones I could plainly see anyway. I do have a lot of tiny snails in my tank though, and I haven't bought any new rock for a long time. So hitch hiker snails are less likely. I'm...

    SALT MIXING ???

As far as which salt is better, there are tons of differing opinions. There are also tons of studies out there breaking down each of the salt mixtures and what is in them, trace elements, calcium, phosphates etc. Most people I know just find one they like and stick with it. There are also...

Small white patch on tank side

It is probably snail eggs. Look at the spot closely and see if it is spiral shaped. When my snails lay eggs it is in a spiral shape on the glass and white colored. I think snails are asexual and can pretty much reproduce anytime.

    Octopus setup?

A skimmer is a must. They produce a lot of waste. You may want a few smaller pieces of lr for it to play around with too. It will rearrange whatever is in the tank to it's own desire. Do a web search for the cephalopod pages. Every question you may have is pretty much covered there. You...

    Xenia

wrigley11 is right. Xenia can be easy to keep or impossible. I tried a very small tank raised piece a long time ago and it never attached and died. All my other corals were fine, just the xenia. My lfs has to literally prune it off the glass, it's taking over. BlueWater, I would try the...

    peppermints and cleaners

No problems here. I have a skunk cleaner and a smaller pepp. My pepp usually just comes out at night though, I rarely see him unless I use a flashlight after lights out. I also have a camel shrimp that has been with me forever.

    Beta fish in a reef?

I have two of these guys. One big fella in my reef, and a tiny one in my FO. They are reef safe IME. I have never seen either go after snails or anything else in the tanks. They are a bit shy though. Mine come out a lot when I stand farther away from the tanks, but at feeding time they are...

    Refugium Owners Q

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna give it a shot. What the worst can happen, I have a tub with hole in it? Johnny, I like your idea of a combo, but if I did that I may as well build a whole new sump, that is what I'm trying to avoid. I already have an open top sump with a fan blowing on...

    Refugium Owners Q

Is there any reason I couldn't make a "hang IN" refugium in my existing sump? My idea is to clamp a tupperware type container on the side, fill with ls, rubble rock and macro, and have it at the water line. I would then drill holes above the level of ls and rubble so water could circulate...

    Damage on green hammer!!

Let us know how the surgery and recovery goes. The slime goo can happen to any corals. It would be nice to know someone who has sucess on treating / dealing with it, so everyone else can benifit from your trials. If that makes sense. I have heard you can cover fresh cut exoskeleton with...

another question about feeding red open brain

No you don't have to feed every mouth. Just feed the coral as a whole. It will guide the chow to whatever mouth is closest. I have three opens,. I just drop silversides on it, it picks the mouth. All are doing very well and growing. Do you supp. phyto as well? The only corals I am aware...

Pick ONE Fish for my 30 Gallon-Semi-Reef

go for a marine betta / comet. They are awsome looking fish, and once they get used to the tank they have definate personalities. Mine swims backwards at me if he doesn't like where I'm looking in my reef. I have a tiny one in my FO tank that just began to do this too. Never bothered other...

    Damage on green hammer!!

You can also try a dip in some medication. I use kent tech D when I cut 'shrooms and I've used it one other time on on a fragged toadstool stump that looked funny. The shrooms did well and the toadstool recovered. It is an anti-bacterial / infection dip. The instructions are on the bottle...

    cut sponges

IME even a really small piece of sponge will grow back. I've accidentally smushed some of mine when moving rocks around and they grow back well, and quickly. I don't have any other than what hitch hiked in on my rock, but they are sponges all the same.
