I narrowed it down to a few choices in skimmers, any final thoughts?

I have an XP 2000 and it works great without alot of fuss. I can't give you a comparison to the other two but I would highly recommend it the XP 2000.

    Stock My 40g

I also agree, too much cuc. I personally don't like the Sally light foots, if you plan to have coral, they get pretty big and tend to rearrange corals. CUC (any sugguestions?) -1 Sally light foot crab - (don't like for above reasons, replace with emerald crabs maybe 2) -10 Narci snails - (I...

Watts / Lumins / Foot Candles / PAR ???? This is the question???

Ok first, Just to be clear, I've never heard of PAR (parabolic aluminized reflector) as a measure of light and that is what we are talking about here..right?? And I agree, that especially today with the new technology in lighting that the watts ratio is outdated, but how would you describe in...

Watts / Lumins / Foot Candles / PAR ???? This is the question???

I responded to a post on this forum, regarding lighting...it raised some questions in my mind. So I started doing a little research and I found some interesting information on Lumins versus watts versus PAR. I would love to hear the thoughts of some of our more experienced posters as to which of...

    what size heater?

I think that I agree with Slice, depending on where Ibannie lives, if the temperature in the house isn't in the mid 70's year round, the 100w may have a hard time keeping up in the cooler months. If the heater is set at the highest setting and remains a steady 76' that could waiver. I think that...

Buying New Lighting. Some questions, Need Advice...

Choosing the right lighting Choosing the right light fixture for your reef aquarium depends a lot on the type of corals you intend to keep. Generally, the VHO (Very High Output) fluorescent , PC (Power Compact) fluorescent and T5 fluorescent lighting systems are great for corals that require low...

Buying New Lighting. Some questions, Need Advice...

As a general rule of thumb, figure 2 to 4 watts of light per gallon for low-light corals, and as much as 5 to 8 watts per gallon for light-loving corals. Some of your decision is going to depend on your personal preference and from the sounds of it a little extra work on your part. If you do a...

    Having trouble with my nano?!?

I have a current aqua pod and the one I have came with 2 - 14" Power Compacts, I have never cared for PC's, so I just removed the lid with the PC's and hung a 175 w 10K Metal Halide pendant over the tank and corals are improving. Hope this helps.

Here we go! (NEW PICS Nov.3/2010)

I notice that in the pictures, you don't have sand in the tank yet, do you plan on putting sand in?? If you do, it will probably cause a cycle to some degree. So, if you are putting sand in it may be premature for the clean up crew. I would personally hold off on the electric crabs as they tend...

Thanks for the suggestion, I have been hesitant to put many fish in my tank, due the the risk of ick. It seems like most of the fish I try to introduce gets stressed and brings ick into my tank. I quarantine everything but even when you move them from the quarantine to the main tank they can...
