i don't have a top on my tank at all. i just have my lights sitting right on the tank. yes you will have more water evaporation but it's actually more beneficial not to have the top on. i top off my tank almost every morning.

a friend of mine sold me a ton of kent chemicals for really cheap. included in them was iron. just curious on the bottle it says it's good for calcerous algae. huh? not quite sure what that means and is there really any sense in dosing my tank with it. anyone who knows all the benefits, please...

hey i used the buffer from kent and then started using the baking soda and both presented the same results. that's why i stuck with the baking soda because why buy something that costs more if something that costs less presents the same results. and rolltide i no longer work at the lfs but i do...

rolltide the b-ionic he sold you is a calcium supplement and yes it should help spread your coraline algae once you get your calcium level to about 450ppm. my calcium level stays at about 50ppm.

how does the rest of the coral look? if it looks ok you could try putting it in the tank and see if starts to perk up. just keep an eye on it.

that's strange bc i have only got 120w of flourescent lighting on my 30G. and the light purple is what seems to be growing more.

the brown stuff is just algae. it won't hurt anything. it should go away in a few days. if you are seeing green now then the brown is turning to green which is good. have you had your water checked lately? if so what are the stats?
