Not new at this, just EXTREMELY STUPID!!!

Okay, I am relatively new at saltwater so this advice may be all wet, (please pardon pun) but I know that bleach will not remove oil. Amonia will. I know amonia is deadly to everything saltwater but amonia can be rinsed off things and will evaporate. I would clean everything off with...

    Lighting Q's

I have a 75 and I had 8x54 watt T5's. It was to much light for my colt and leather corals. My mushrooms were plastered flat aganist the rocks trying to get away from the light. Shrimps hated it too. I went down to 4x54 T5's and everything is much happier.

    Changing tanks. Need advice....

To be safe I'd set up the new tank with the LS and LR and check the specs for a while before I put in the animals. If you only have one filter, heater, light etc then I would think the LS would be okay if you put it in the 37 and when you do a water change in the 46 put it in the 37. After a...

To Scrape or not to Scrape is the ?

I bought a 58 gallon tank with LS, LR, fish, and coral. It had been running for years so it had some coraline on it. I moved everything to a 75 gal and the 58 sat empty, except for a bit of sand and saltwater, for a few weeks. The coraline turned white. I left it there and set up the tank...

What size tank are you going from and going to? Why are you going to use "new" live sand?

Noisy overflow! How do you fix it?

I have a 58 gallon tank with a built in overflow. The overflow is ALWAYS gurgaling (sp?)! The return pipe is a hard plastic mesh with a big sponge-type filter. I had the problem fixed by putting a valve on the end of the return hose and closing it a bit. This kept more water in the...

    sponge for dinner?

Probably not... but let me tell you about my crabby experience and then you can make a decision. I have two tanks and one is a 58 gal tank. I put in an open brain, scientific name of something geoffry. It was doing fine. Not great but fine. A few weeks later I put in an elegance coral. It...

    Ready to SCREAM

I am pretty new at this also. The way I got most of my basic information was to read fairly newly written books. I bought "the simple guide to marine aquariums" and that was very helpful. There is also a saltwater aquariums for dummies book that is supposed to be really good too. You can...

Why dose my clown fish do this???

I have 4 T5's over a 75 gallon tank with (besides other stuff) 3 cinni clowns hosting 3 long tentacle anemoenies (spelling?). all are doing fine. EXCEPT... they still do that tail shaking thing in the sand. messy...messy...messy! You could try frog spawn or hammer/anchor.

What got you to start an aquarium

My son bought a 75 reef drilled. Then found a 58 with stand, halide, sump, pump and heater. I bought the 75 from him. What else do you do with a reef drilled tank but put a reef in it? :joy:

1 sump for 2 tanks - good idea?

I'm pretty sure I know how the items you mention work. Both of the tanks are reef drilled with internal overflows. I'm not sure what you mean about "make sure the sump will hold the drain water in case of a power outage" though. Is it best to have 2 return pumps or 1? I thought I would use...

1 sump for 2 tanks - good idea?

I have a 40 gallon tank that I thought I would set up to use as a sump/refuigum for two 75 gallon tanks. Is this a good idea or a bad one? Please explain. Any advice on how to do this? thanks.

my clown bit my hand!! help

As clown fish get older they get more aggresive. Yours are just protecting their anemone. You have to kind of get use to it. It startles me every time mine nip at me. I try to be prepared but I still kind of jerk when I get hit. Don't worry, your clowns are not really mean---just normal.

    Tank setup-LR/LS addition

I have heard the plastic panels that are used for the suspended ceiling lights called "eggcrate". The plain white criss cross ones. As a mater of fact I used this "eggcrate" to create a plenum for the bottom of my 75 and 58. I don't think that putting foam under the sand would be a good idea...
