    mantis trap help!!!

I am getting desperate. I have a mantis shrimp that hitchhiked in on some live rock. It is in a 50 gallon reef. He has killed every hermit and snail in my tank. It is not a peacock. I think it is the kind that hides most of the time because I have never seen him come all the way out of a...

How do you get your RO/DI water?

Ya Corrallife sells a good unit that hooks to your faucet for around $160. I just bought one myself. It is pretty slow on the output, but it works good. I would not use anything but the RO water.

    hobby guilt

I don't understand why you could not do anything. Did you try giving it a freshwater bath? I am not trying to be a jerk. I understand that fish die, but it sounds like you didn't try to save it.

Enough With The Politics!!! Why Are We Waisting Everyone's Time With This Crap? I Thought This Was A Place For People To Discuss Aquariums. Lately I Have Been Seeing More Stuff That Is Totally Unrelated. I Am Not Sure What The Rules Stipulate, But I Think You Should Go Somewhere Else. I Am...

    Fish only start up

I am thinking of doing a fowlr in a 26 bowfront that I just purchsed. I thought I would be fine with a small amount of rock and fish and a lot of water movement and filtration. My lfs told me to use very little rock and treat with copper all the time. I am not real sure about this one. I...

How do I remove bristle worms

I have problems with bristle worms on my corals. This is the only place I have ever heard that bristle worms are not bad. They are good cleaners as juveniles, but when they get older they can chew through you coral. Every time my star polyps do not open, I find a bristle worm somewhere on the...

    Salinity Problem ***

You should be able to calibrate your refractometer yourself. If you put some plain RO water on it, there should be a little [hr] on top. Turn the [hr] to O with plain Ro and it should be right on.

Just Started My SW Tank!!! HELP ME OUT!

I think you are all over reacting a little. If you start out with enough live rock you have the potential to cycle a tank with no ammonia spike. Every time I cycle a tank, I put the max amount of live rock and check my levels every day. I don't recommend using damsels because they are...

    Bubble Algae

I have always been told to burn it off with a small torch. If you use a small flame, it wont deaden to much of the live rock but there is no risk of spread.

    Background questions

Most fish stores carry stuff called sea view. It is somewhat like baby oil without the smell. You just smear a little of it on the glass, put the background on and use a credit card or something to smooth out the air bubbles. I have used it on multiple tanks and would not do it any other way...
