    Holy Problem!

you can get an algae bloom if your alk is down as well as your ph. The extra light just gave the algae a little extra boost. IMO extra water changes and toss your bio balls a little at a time. removing all of them may send your tank the other way.:joy:

    Can someone identify this?

 IMO it looks like an anenomea called aptasia. I have been killing mine with some stuff called joes juice because if you get a whole bunch of the suckers they can kill your livestock and take over your tank. Use google and look it up and you will see a lot of pics and description about...

    same species, different color-mix?

Go Bush Go. One word about your fishes. If there is a fish that is tough enough to make it through the cycling it would be the damsels. I moved and during the move we poured out one of the buckets into the sink. About 15 minutes later I look down into the sind because something caught my...

    same species, different color-mix?

Lastly about your lighting. You need to ask about getting some more. If you are not going to have coral but mostly fish you can get away with less light but your fish will not be as brilliant. At the lfs they probably were running Hallides or VHO or PC or a combination of the above. With...

    same species, different color-mix?

Wow did you get some help quick. First thing you should do is check with the lfs about taking back most if not all your fish. If they will trade you for some more live rock then that would be your best bet. You can still add some live argonite sand now, about a 20lbs bag should do. Get...

    same species, different color-mix?

Welcome to your new life. Just a couple of questions first. How long has your tank actually been set up? Do you have liverock and sand? How large is the tank? What type of lighting and filtration? The saltwater tank is much more detailed than freshwater and easily rushed. I would not add...

    lighting up my reef/fish tank

I have looked at the Halides but do not like the heat that comes off of them. My friend has 2 175 and 2 03's on a 105 and that tank increases 5 to 8 degrees through the day even with 4 fans. I found some of the pc with 400 watt with 10k's 6.5k and 420-460 actinics plus three night led for 24...

    HOT protein skimmer recommendation

I also use the CPR BakPak 2r with 2 chambers. It does a wonderful job and sell for 150 on up. The only negative on this one is the maintenance. The pumps tend to pull in everything and because of the way there made it has eluded me on how to add some type of filter to it. Still really pleased...

    red mushroom are dying....help!

You said your water smells. Does it smell like rotten eggs. If it does that is a sulphur release. You need to change 30 to 40% of your water and find a way to add a carbon filter to you system for a few days. You will have to add back your esential elements because the carbon will remove...

    Shrimp molting process

You might want to look at your other live stock. I had a coral banded that had molted 6 or 7 times with no problems. He did die the last time because a Damsel I have which is now 4 inches long decided he would make a good meal. I found a couple of pieces in different locations in the tank...
