Actually, the hole is above the waterline. In the picture, it is right at the 90 degree bend (right side of fitting in the picture). You can just make out a small stream of water coming from it. It is working well so far, breaks the siphon as soon as power is lost, so I only drain the water...

    *Humpday 12-Pack.........mmmmm delicious. *

Wow! Those pictures are fantastic. I get a lot of ideas and inspiration from some of your pictures Rye. I seriously need to invest in a better camera. Photography seems to go hand in hand with this hobby. Dew

First sump/'fuge design for my first SW tank!

Rob, I like the idea for your setup, especially the skimmer section. I just didn't have room for the skimmer underneath my stand. I wasn't originally going to put an area for any other media (mech, etc...) in mine, but it does allow me the area to use if I had too. In fact, it came in very handy...

Oh yeah, heres one other thing that the LFS pointed out for me to try. I drilled a hole in my return pipe, right at the 90 degree elbow before it goes into the return fittings. This little hole allows air back into the return line when power is cut off to the pump. I get very little return water...

Rob, Right now I've just got a 13W PC light fixture on the Fuge area. I should upgrade it to at least a 32W for the mangroves to really do well. The mangroves are "red mangroves", which can exist in salt water. I've got long feather caulerpa for the macro algae in the fuge. I'd like to get some...

Ok, just took a few more pictures, might show the set-up a bit better. First one is the whole Sump/Fuge
  9. blue dew

    Attention: Zanemoseley

Not yet, but here is a describtion.. The water comes in on the right side through a hose from my overflow. It flows underneath the first partition where the white egg crate plastic is and then up over the baffle into the fuge. Leaving the fuge, the water flows over the other egg crate pieces...

    Attention: Zanemoseley

Here are the pictures of my Sump/Fuge that I mentioned in the reef forum. I figured I'd post them here in the equipment section. Like I said in my earlier post, I used a 29 gallon for the idea so I would have extra space in case of a power outage.

40gal Fuge Design Help w/ CAD PIC

Heres a drawing I made of my basic design. I'm running about 4-6 inches of sand in mine, with some live rock chunks, caulpera as my macro algae and 2 small mangroves. The total height of the 29 gallon was 18" (I believe), and my baffles for the fuge area are 12". Not the best drawing, first time...

40gal Fuge Design Help w/ CAD PIC

Hi, I just did something similar when upgrading from a 30 gallon to a 40 Breeder. I had a sump/fuge made out of a 29 gallon due to the height. I was originally going to use a 20 long, but was worried about possible overflow problems if I lost power to the return pump. So far, everything is...

Has Saltwaterfish.com become part of your everyday life?

I also have to agree with the fact that this site has become a part of my day. I havn't posted too much lately, but usually vist at least once or twice a day. Some weekends I know I spend too much time here, but I also havn't lost any fish, corals are doing great and I'm always learning more...

    Bakpak2R Problems

I'm also running the CPR Backpack 2R skimmer and had the exact same problem with the sponge inside. Caused a nice little flood. Its now stored underneath the stand, just in case I ever needed it, or sold it. I've also always run the air wide open. Like Justin said, the green adjustment screw is...

    Cleaner Shrimp Scare!

I added two Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp to my tank about a month ago. One molted the first night, and the other one molted the following evening. Freaked me out too...

    My first six pack.

Searcher, Very nice pics. I'm new to the six-pack thing too. Also, I have the exact same type and number of fish that you do, but I also cannot get a good picture of my Six-Line Wrasse. He just will not stay still... Dew

    YET ANOTHER 6 pack

Very, very nice. I've got some macro algae in my tank also. By the way, whats the coral in the 5th picture? It's beautiful and I don't remember seeing one before.

    My Saturday Night 6-Pack

Thanks for the replies and the IDs on the corals! I've been trying to keep the corals simple to start out with. Most of them are small frags I get from a good LFS in my area. The camera is a Sony DSC-S30. I'm looking to get a better one with more macro capability in the future. Thanks again! Dew
