The lights are switched. You have to push the button in and hold it for a second or two for them to kick in. We tried the timer but it won't work with these.

Hello :) We are leaving thursday and will not return until monday.... I was not sure what to do about our light situation, I do not have anyone that can come over and turn them on and off, nor will a timer work with our ballast'. Should we just leave them on? or off........

Thanks for the advice! I will return the zoe to the lfs today. Generally we have never had a problem with them and this was his personal eel and its as healthy as can be. But I like the idea of frozen foods better. Should the frozen shrimp and such be allowed to thaw?

There is about 20 pounds of live rock in there. But the crabs have done a great job of keeping it clean. I will try the seeweed approach just to make sure hes happy and fat. Him and the eel seem to get along fine........well as good as they can, the eel swims near him the blenny scoots away.

We just picked up our snowflake eel, he is about 10" long, very healthy and beautiful. At the lfs we were told to feed him gold fish feeders and inject him once a week with 1cc of zoe by kent. Is there a better way to do this, I don't want to go stabbing the poor guy.

I acquired an icecap ballast. It is blue and has a silver heatsink. It came with a solar something or another that I guess dims the light instead of instant on instant off. It is the setup for 4 bulbs it says on the ballast it's self. I only have a 30 gallon tank and the lighting in there...

I use tap water, that has been filtered through a brita water filter. (coming from the kitchen sink) I throw in some dechlorinator and everything seems fine so far.

Yeah this place is great. I won't even go to the lfs for help anymore. All they want to do is sell you more damsels.

The test kit I bought came with ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH, and alkalinity. And little color coded cards. I am assuming thatall of the levels I want are the lowest, lighest coloring? I have never done this part myself, and appreciate any and all help. And should I test everything weekly?
