    Clownfish with a couple dents

I tried to take a picture of it--she is very difficult to photograph though (and please excuse the messy sand, I just cleaned the rocks and there is some loose debris flying around). It is a subtle dent--it is on the white stripe closest to her eyes and looks like a diagonal shadow almost...

    Clownfish with a couple dents

Hello everyone, My ocellaris clownfish, whom I have had for going on three years, has recently developed two identical "dents" or indentations on both sides of the white stripe closest to her eyes. She has otherwise been behaving completely normal. Has anyone encountered this before who might...

Need Quick Answer on Shrimp Moving

Hi everyone, tomorrow I am going to move my fish tank to a friend's apartment over spring break. It's only about five minutes away, and I am going to transport my clownfish and shrimp in a 5 gallon bucket with a heater and air pump (as usual). This morning, I woke up to find that my shrimp had...

    Maxi-Jet Problems

Hm...well that's kind of annoying. How does anyone use them for surface agitation then, unless they place it directly under the surface? :notsure: Thanks! -lefty

    Maxi-Jet Problems

After one of my powerheads burned out about a month ago, I decided to purchase a maxi-jet 600 to replace it since I'd heard such good things about maxi-jets here at SWF. The first day I put it in, I was really impressed. It was quiet and seemed to be doing its job perfectly. The next day...

    Is this enough surface agitation?

A skimmer isn't very compatible with my hood or my tank. I have very little room to work with, not to mention I cannot afford to spend $100-$200 on one. I'm sure if I really wanted to I could try and modify my hood so that I could have one, but I also live in an extremely small dorm room and the...

    Is this enough surface agitation?

I don't have a skimmer or a sump. The Tunze has a built in surface skimmer on it, but it does not draw the water forcefully enough to cause anything more than almost undetectable ripples. I'll watch out for the surface film and look for particles on the underside of the surface. Thanks! -lefty

    Is this enough surface agitation?

Hello everyone, I just replaced my Eclipse 3 filter with a Tunze 3165 Internal Nano Filter. The Eclipse 3 filter provided a good amount of surface agitation and I was never concerned about the gas exchange until now. The Tunze is set up so the water flows out of it (at 211 GPH) at the bottom of...

    My Clown Bit Me!

She has never shown any attachment to the powerhead before. She'll go for my hand no matter where it is in the tank. It's just really odd that she all the sudden decides to bite me after two years. Thanks for your input guys! -lefty

    My Clown Bit Me!

Hello everyone, One of the two powerheads in my 20g long died on me a couple days ago. My new one won't be here until early next week, so I've been moving the working one to different locations in the tank so all the spots still get a little water movement. I'm not sure if this made my female...

    my tank is hot

87 degrees is not fatal for most livestock. It might possibly be fatal if the temperature jumped from 80 to 87 in an instant, but the slow rising of temperature to that degree will not be harmful, though it might make them a little uncomfortable. At most, you might've killed off some of your...

    Internal Filter Recommendations

Ah yes, I received input elsewhere concerning which internal filter to buy and have decided to get the Tunze Nano Filter, in case anyone was curious to know. -lefty

    Internal Filter Recommendations

I am not looking for a filtration method debate, but I use it because I move my tank back and forth three times a year (that makes for six moves total). I don't want to have to rely on sand for filtration because it is disturbed during travel. After it is disturbed, it will throw the levels off...

    Internal Filter Recommendations

I am looking for a filter, not a skimmer. Though it is definitely not a bad idea to get one. I've read relatively good reviews about some of the Eheim and Hagen internal filters, but I have no idea if there is a place in any of those to put the chemipure and polyfilter pads. I also don't have...

    Internal Filter Recommendations

I know live sand in general would provide good filtration, but I don't have much of it and I also like running chemipure. Do you know of any good internal filters? -lefty

    Internal Filter Recommendations

I don't think my sand will provide suitable filtration. Its main function is for appearance and I don't think it really does much else. :happyfish
