Will This Setup Work Out? Pic Attached

I just checked your profile..don't think I need to explain water dynamics to an aerospace engineer. Sorry. Baffles from skimmer to fuge can't hurt as far as removing bubbles is concerned but are not necessary.

That looks better! With the canister filter would you need the second skimmer? Any thoughts of sending overflow #2 straight to the canister then to the fuge? I claim no expertise on that subject, just wondering for my own good. On the baffles, envision your system with the return empty. In...

    sump question

Why teeth on the wall from fuge to return? If you have one constant wall, the water will be more apt to have smooth flow over the wall. Also consider flipping the teeth of the water return box to the bottom rather than the top. Raise the wall of the box above the fuge return wall. You'll get...

Will This Setup Work Out? Pic Attached

Dogstar has it! The refugium is a source of micro life that you are sending back to your tank. I don't think it matters whether you send skimmed or non-skimmed water to your fuge, it will still be doing it's work so long as you have supplied it with light and macros. As for my statement on the...

Need sugg for automatic top off system

Lennon, If you've got room in your sump, rinse out a gallon milk container fill it with water and suspend it upside down just below your water line. As water evaporates, the jug will drain. Cheap and easy!

Will This Setup Work Out? Pic Attached

Euphoria, I've been reading through these posts for a year or so now and have never read one that suggests sending refugium water to a skimmer area. The logic being, "Why skim all the good stuff out before pumping it back to your main tank?" I'd suggest that you put your fuge in the center of...

    Switching to External Pump

I'm going to go from a Mag-drive to an external to keep the temp in my tank down (especially needed now in the summer!). I've read several posts on this site over the last several months recommending Iwaki. Does anyone know why is one with a Japanese motor $110 more than the American motor...

    Overflow standpipe question

Thank you both for the advise. I took the basic concept and did it on the cheap. $12 at Lowes! Golfish I'm sorry you don't have the 3" fittings because they worked great for me. I purchased two 3" caps and a little bit of aluminum flat stock. I cut the stock to fit across the inside. The...

    Overflow standpipe question

I have a mag18 pump with about 5 ft of head. It should be pushing about 1200 gph. The standpipe is in an already tight overflow box. I'll check out the Stockman. Will this help air aspriation as well as the noise?

    Overflow standpipe question

My 150 has two corner overflows. I've installed a 1 1/2" bulkhead in each side for drains. I figured that I'd want the standpipe a larger diameter than the actual bulkhead. My standpipes are 2" diameter and 26" tall. My problem is that they are noisy and seem to pull so much air down with...

    bulkheads upside down

A few months ago I thought I read a Squidd post to keep the seal to the outside and the nut to the water. It was difficult to reach 36 inches into the overflow to tighten the nut but I hard plumbed it up completely only to find a leak. What a pain to reverse! Squidd straightened me out after...

    Sump Pump Suggestions

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good in-sump pump? I haven't read too much good about RIO. I've read nothing but good about IWAKI but don't think they make in-sump. Mag-drive any good? I'll be shooting for about 1200 - 1400 GPH total flow with about 5 ft of head. thanks.

    Additional plumbing questions

Each overflow chamber has 3 drilled holes in it. 2 at the bottom (drain and return) and the third is 1" diameter with the centerline about an inch below the teeth. My assumption is that this is for the return water. If I run my return water through here, there will be no over the top siphon...
