Do fromia/marble stars really starve after 18 months, or is that just their lifespan?

so what do we think or assume their normal lifespan is then?

    Jellyfish Tank

ER.MD, I have seen that three tank jelly fish in the Mandalay bay, and stood there totally mesmerized. I have wanted jellies ever since. Yes sadly those kriesal tanks are the only way, but they look really cool and have a pretty sweet lighting setup. Their pricey though. But what isn't in this...

    420nm vs. 460nm

I plan on doing one 420nm & one 460nm T-5 bulbs over my 40 breeder. I'm hoping that the two colors will mix in the water and just look really good and it won't look half blue and half purple. I figure it might take me switching them from front to back, and then back again before I get the visual...

Lets see the tanks running with no skimmers.....

mscarpena, are you aware that softies/lps actually like dirtier water better? all of that nasty funky stuff that you don't like the smell of, yes some of it is bad, and some of it is also good. No one really knows what percentage is what though. There are other things to do to your tank if...

    Corals touching question????

hmm. Well I will try and isolate mushrooms to a certain area of my tank, they're cool, but zoas and rics are my favorite next to pom pom xenia and if they start killing it off I will be mad. What about rics touching zoas? and zoas touching pom pom xenia? That's awesome things are still growing...

Lets see the tanks running with no skimmers.....

Hagfish, you do make a good point with the nanos. Your right a tank your size is just not feasable to do that large of a water change that often. But tanks 75 or lower, you can probably run them with no skimmer. I was just making the comparison of a nano to my 40 breeder, like if it works on a...

Lets see the tanks running with no skimmers.....

Ahh the biocubes. Many people have these nano's and biocubes, and most of them don't have skimmers, like my buddy who has a 6 gallon. Yet I have seen these little nano's flurish better than most peoples reef tanks. sure they have various media in the back chambers, but nothing is actually...

    Corals touching question????

I have this same kind of question posted on another website. what about all kinds of mushrooms? surely they all can touch? what about all kinds of ricordias? Can all of the different colors touch? now the tricky part... can mushrooms and ricordias touch? what about zoas with mushrooms or rics...

Lets see the tanks running with no skimmers.....

Alright most of you and all of my friends who are in the hobby, disgree that you can run a successful tank without a skimmer. And I'm not talking sps, I'm talking most about softies/lps tanks. I have myself, personally ran a 55 with no skimmer for almost three years. Did I lose corals over the...

    20k in 150W or 250W MH HQI over a 40 breeder???

I'm thinking about possibly getting the 14k phoenix 150W. They seem to be really blue, and apparently turn even more blue with an electronic ballast (which is the kind that is going come with my retro kit) I'm hoping to be happy with them. I really want it as blue as possible, but also want...

    20k in 150W or 250W MH HQI over a 40 breeder???

man that just seems like an awful amount of light. Remember, its going to be mostly softies/lps bases, so anything in the MH genre is going to make them thrive, so there is no need to really blast them like sps. they are gonna be DE, where/how would i find PAR ratings on DE bulbs?

    20k in 150W or 250W MH HQI over a 40 breeder???

hmm. i dunno, my buddy has 2- 250w on a 90 gallon and i almost feel thats overkill. how much does the par drop going from 14k to 20k both on 150w and 250w? anybody know where i can find a chart detailing this?

    20k in 150W or 250W MH HQI over a 40 breeder???

i am going to get a single light retro kit from hellolights, it comes with two T-5's for actinics to put over a 40 breeder. I planned on getting the 150W, but I want it as blue as possible, and definitally want 20k. I know the bluer, you go, the less par you have. But I do not want to run my...

    elegance coral

ive actually heard that if you bury/pour it with some sand, it will dig itself out and open up. look into this idea a little bit more, im not 100% sure on it, but i think its a good lead. and elegance corals need to be in sand, not on live rock.
