Will that harm the live rock?

Well, we don't have any fish left to get a picture but it was like a white slime coat over them. Some had a cottony string coming off of them.

We picked up some live rock from someone and added it to our tank. We "washed" it with our water and put it in. We had a drastic ph drop and lost 1 fish. We did a 10% water change and ph was up and all test were normal. Then a bacteria/fungus hit. We now have 0 fish. It worked fast, just 2 days...

About the sand, I could just use a little bit of live sand, and the other and eventually it would all be live?! So, by adding gradually, would the crushed coral also become live? Would this be a problem?:confused:

:notsure: That would mean another chore chart. But, so far, since it is mostly the 14yr olds, he does most the work. I get to feed the fish once in awhile. Since he is still eager enough to do all himself, (I help with water changes also.), I think I will let him do it and eventually have HIM...

:yes: We have 6 boys and 6 girls. The oldest is 18 and the youngest is 17 months. They are alot of fun and it's exciting seeing them all excited about the sw tank. :cheer:

I heard that also. But I think you would just stir up the top layer of the sand to loosen debris and then vacuum up that. I wouldn't want to put the siphon in the sand because I wouldn't want to disturb the beneficial stuff too much. If any of that makes sense!

The filtration system is "hidden". Is that what you are talking about? The space where that is?

What do I need to do to change to live sand? Will this cycle my tank again? Would my fish be hurt by this? (clown fish, yt damsel, firefish)

Thank you for your time. I will have my son do some research on that. Would it be possible and less expensive to make his own? He is very good with electricity. How about a sump? Would he have to have one on a small tank?

I didn't think of the coral pushing it's way up. I forgot about settling, thanks. The blue green chromis's will be given to a friend in 2 months 3 weeks after their tank is done cycling. We have had ours for 6 months and everyone is getting along great. No stress for anyone and no problem with...

Some coral comes from deep in the ocean, some higher up. Do I really need to know exactly where everything is coming from and make sure everything in the tank is from the same area?

What kind of water movement would we need for anemones, corals, live rock? Does all the items need to be from the same depth?:notsure:
