I'm opinion shopping again...live rock questions

Thanks for the response. I can't tell you what my nitrate levels are because I take my water to the LFS for everything except specific gravity (and brilliant me, I never keep the paper around with the stuff on it-completely disorganized)...but, I'm planning on a fish store expedition tomorrow...

I'm opinion shopping again...live rock questions

Whether the live rock is or isn't a good idea, what type of starfish is great for beginners? I'm scrubbing algae fairly frequently, though my water (checked by the LFS) is fine, and I'd like to see it eaten, or used in some fashion, rather than whisked off by my scrubber. Thanks again

    Check this out

Cool! It looks like a feather duster with pinchers. Thanks for sharing.

I'm opinion shopping again...live rock questions

:help: Haven't been on the site for a while, but my tank has been running really well. I downgraded big time a month or so ago and now have two smaller tanks (freshwater 10 gallon, marine 20 gallon). I've got happy go lucky marble fan-tail goldfish in my mum's freshwater tank and (don't...

Where to go with the tank now...

Sorry to everybody who replied and haven't seen a response! It was vacation and then I had a bad fall off a horse, so there IS an explanation. Anyway, thanks for the opinions. I think that I'd like to go with the reef set up, but I have to add something in the defense of the damsels. I know...

Where to go with the tank now...

Return it to IFs? Sorry, don't understand. But thanks for the replies. Doesn't sound to optimistic for the mandarin fish. Really tired...i'll check back tomorrow and try to read the rest of the post. me scusi

Where to go with the tank now...

Well, I've kind of been considering *key word stressed again 'considering'* to purchase some liverock. But I'm so worried that I'm going to mess up and have to re-do my entire tank...start all over because the rock isn't healthy or the creatures in it die and pollute my tank...erg. Nervous...

Where to go with the tank now...

Good questions-makes it a little hard to provide answers when I don't really explain what my tank is like! Its a fifty-five gallon, with two external filters...nothing really very special. I don't have a protein skimmer, or any kind of under gravel type of filter, and there is no live rock...

Where to go with the tank now...

My fifty-five gallon (inhabitants 1 Yellow Tailed Damsel and 1 Black Tailed Humbug DAmsel) is working well (as far as my testing kits are telling me) and everything seems to be ready for my next fish. The two damsels get along swimmingly, contrary to most it would seem and I'm looking forward...

I got my Black-tail Humbug Damselfish!

Hmm...the problem has been put on the back burner for the moment. I just opened the bill for the vet visit last Tuesday (my competition horse is lame, and the problem is still a mystery) and its not so low. I think I'll have to make do with the tank as it is, hopefully I'll be able to afford...

I got my Black-tail Humbug Damselfish!

What would you suggest for my next few fish? I'd like to keep the fish to a fairly small number. I have the Three Stripe (AKA Black tailed Humbug) and I know I want a Clownfish, either ocellaris or percula...as it is, I'd like to get a Black Percula Clownfish, but then my tank will be like...

I got my Black-tail Humbug Damselfish!

Yeah, I know what you're saying about the clownfish/damselfish species closeness. Most books/sites had them both under 'anemonefish' or at least, placed next to each other. Supposedly they both like to host things, like you said. So that makes sense...new tank and it probably wants to have a...

I got my Black-tail Humbug Damselfish!

The highjacking is ok by me. Continue be all means, its interesting and since I DO have one I can use the extra info. Snipe-is it normally a top level swimmer? Mine has been hiding way at the top of my tank, behind the heater. He has some long algae and lots of coral, plus the secluded...

I got my Black-tail Humbug Damselfish!

I'm not sure. It the Humbug Damselfish...only it has a black tail instead of the white like the regular Humbug Damselfish. They are pretty popular, every store I've gone into has a few in their tanks. Does that help at all?

I got my Black-tail Humbug Damselfish!

Wow. No one has any info on the black tailed damselfish? Thats a surprise.

I got my Black-tail Humbug Damselfish!

He is so perfect. He was the fastest fish in the community tank and the aquarium store owner took forever to try and catch him. But he is none for the worse and is swimming quite happily in my tank. I always picked up ten blue leg hermit crabs. This is my new fifty five gallon that I've been...

    Lighting Decision

The sunlight in my room is really intense...central florida is pretty hot and sunny. I have twin french doors and a large window and between the two I get a TON of light. The tank, should I pull up the blinds and curtains, would be right in the light. But the reason I don't is because of alge...

    Lighting Decision

Yeah, thanks for the clear up on the air stone. No , I don't really want the normal, bright floreouscent lights, but I wasn't sure if my fish would flourish with just a moonlight type of light for the tank...there is plenty of sunshine in my room, just not directly in my tank during the day...

    Lighting Decision

I have had my fifty five gallon tank running for a good while now but yesterday, the top light accidently fell into the tank, while plugged in. Of course, I ran to the garage and found the switch that controls the current in my room, turned it off and then safely removed the light fixture from...
