crushed coral w/ tenticles.... what is this?

Hello everyone, I have searched and searched the forums for years now but have never seen what I've got here. They are small, almost look like a small piece of crushed coral, but with tenticle arms, and until a crash I never noticed them. When I had a crash, brown algea covered everything and...

Built in overflow level problem - any ideas?

I have a 140gal tall 6' tank, and its all setup w/ a lot of LR and sand. I have always had a HOT overflow box, so I never had to worry about being exactly level, but this new tank has two built in overflows, and.... the tank is off level just a hair, causing almost all the return water to go...

    my tank isn't level

If all you have is just water in the tank, I would level it up. Personally I never put thought into it and my tanks always ended up leaning slightly and I never had any leaking problems. My problem with my new tank is I have two overflows and being 1/4" off is causing all the water to drain into...

    An Odyssea review

i too went with oddesea - at first everything worked great but the ballasts died very soon but they can be swapped with the coralife ballasts. Also I agree they ship awful bulbs so if you swap those also you'll have a good setup. Watch out for heat! All my fans died quick(under 30 days 3...

    Calling all Eel Owners

I wouldnt. I got my snowflake when he was like 6", and all was ok. Now he is like a good 3' and WILL eat the whole clean up crew, and I feed him to much already. Emerald crabs are his favorate, and snails are next, the cleaner shrimps last a little while but do disappear before there life span...

    Odyssea

GARBAGE. Im actually am waiting for it to burn down my house. I'll start with the good-Its been running for 3-4 years, thats all that is good. The bad is first off while its on the trannys vibrate and all the crappy screws make noise. The fans in the hood only last for about 30 days, so I gutted...

    metal halide comparible to anything?

My major setback was a snowflake eel.... The LFS said it was reef safe, and it was... at 3" but now the thing must be 3' and just tears everything up. So my plans are to make a aggressive tank and pull him out of the reef

    metal halide comparible to anything?

I used to have a few anemonies, some brain corals, claims, even plate corals. Now I just have a colt and some polops, I would like to go back to a full stocked reef

    metal halide comparible to anything?

I used to have a LFS but they closed so now I have no guide other than you guys. Right now I have 2 175w mH bulbs and 2 48" pc artinics on a 240g. I have not seen any major improvment when I switched to mH's from all pcs. I need to use less power but keep the best lighting possible for REEF but...

    Moving Reef

I moved my 100g from my apartment to to my new house, it was a big task but this is how i did it. 1 new 55 gallon rubbermaid drum about 5 5gal buckets new or clean garden hose I put the drum in my truck, which was by the door and pumped the water from the tank into it. I put all the LR in the...

    Koralia Wavemaker Or No Wavemaker

a wavemaker was the best thing I put in my tank. weather its a reef or not I think its healthy for the fish. Major downfall though - when the pumps are cycled constantly, they are noisy. Loud snaps, which are fine but my tank is in my small living room, so they seem very loud.

    cold weather bad for seals

silcone does flex well w/ temp but plastic dosen't. When it gets really cold plastic becomes brittle, which all in all, as long as your careful on the plastic (like picking the tank up) it should be fine but it wont take much to crack. I have a brand new pool - everyone told me to store the...

    how often do you change

if you forget to change your MH's you'll see it in the coral. I have an awful memory so I always forget. My colt usually lets me know by shrinking, then I change the bulbs and its all good. If I heard right you have to change any bulb, T5's, PC's and MH's

    I HATE heaters

Ha I agree w/ you! In the fish equipment world EVERYTHING should be waterproof. When I spend the $ for the nice heater, somehow, water gets spilled on the controller and burns it out! On the other hand I havent had a titanium element die, so if your careful you should have a lot of luck w/ a...
