Torn Byssal Glands on New Clams

I purchased two new clams (a T. maxima and a T. crocea) both of which unfortunately have had their byssal glands completely severed from whatever they were previously attached to. This may be worded improperly because as I understand it the byssal glands are internal and it extends byssal...

Aqua C Remora Pro Protein Skimmer

Hey guys, I am having a little problem with one of these skimmers. I am helping out my step-dad with getting his skimmer working for his nano and it has been running for well-over two months with no collection. He had a Maxijet 900 on it (230 GPH) and I thought that perhaps it was not enough...

    Proper Calibration of a Refractometer

I just wanted to post this for everyone's edification because I recently learned this myself. Only a lab-grade quality refractometer can get away with being calibrated with distilled water or RO/DI water. The cheap ones we use in this hobby (less than $100) can still be inaccurate when you use...

    Euphyllia sp. ID

I received one head of this coral in a trade about six months ago and it is now five full heads and has another five or six baby heads sprouting from the base. In the trade the gentleman called it a torch coral, but everyone that has visited since has called it a frogspawn and some even said it...

    Dead SPS? (Pics)

Hey guys. I got my first two SPS frags ever last night: I think the first one is a blue tort and the second is Montipora digitata. I added them to my tank at around 9:00 PM and they had full polyp extension right away. The lights went out at 10:00 PM. The next morning at 10:00 AM they looked...

    Hitchhiker ID

What is this critter? It cruises around like a snail, I have not seen it eating any corals or anything and nothing seems to be dying or being bothered. It is very flat, circular saw blade-like shell that is covered in coralline, it is so low profile I have not been able to see the body of it.

    Scratches in Glass

Anyone have experience in removing scratches from the inside of tank glass (not acrylic)? I am potentially purchasing a 120 gal. AGA used and would be able to drain it and buff the scratches out if possible. They aren't that deep, but noticeable enough for someone as anal as me to want to buff...

What is wrong with my hairy mushrooms?

:notsure: My hairy mushrooms used to look like this... May 23rd, 2006. They have now looked like this for nearly the past four weeks... This is what they look like as of tonight, November 8th, 2006. They used to be fully "puffed up" all during the day and would shrink to about half the size...

Corals not looking so hot and strange test results...

Hey folks, I am having a little trouble with the 12 gal. nano I setup for my wife about two months ago. I used 12 lbs. of mature live rock from a six year old system along with 10 lbs. of live sand from the same system. All the initial water came from my 24 gal. nano in our home. There of...
