You can use powerheads by hiding them under rocks and use plastic tube to direct the water flow between the rocks.

I use an overflow tube with a skimmer box for my refugium and its quiet enough. The vibration from the skimmer is whats bad and the only other place I can put it is in a sump as my refugium is too small. Another reason to do a sump.

The 'fuge is next to my display tank on a stand that is equal in height to my display's stand. It isn't hooked into a sump or anything else.

I am turning a 10 gal. tank into a refugium and have a question. I'm using a small powerhead to pump the water back into the tank, should I use one to bring it in? I was going to let siphon suction do the work but now I'm not sure that will work. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

What are you making it out of? If it's 2x4's I would put one in the middle between the cross members for support over the long haul.

I decided to change my 'fuge from a hang on to a seperate unit. I am using my 20 gal(high) as a template. Will 1/4 inch plastic still work or do I need to go thicker? I am planning to install baffles that run the length of the tank that should help its integrity. What do you gys think?
