    Hermit ---

I've seen many of my hermits acting that way.... and we've had teeeeeny tiny lil hermit crabs weeks later. Your guess is as good as mine, but if they are mating they are happy in their home.

    Killing my polyps...

That doesn't look like cyano to me at all. I'm not able to say what it is... but it most likely is NOT cyano (or red slime). Keep this post at the top someone will be able to help you ID this. :-)

    Well, he's not exactly gorgeous...but he's mine

For the one who asked how one can tell if it's a mantis..... one way is to listen. They have very large loud snaps! It sounds sort of like a rock hitting the glass. That's one way that they catch their prey. The snap stuns them. Pistol shrimps also snap but you rarely get a pistol shrimp as...

    Some type of worm

Those are definately red flat worms. You want to get rid of them rather quickly as they will reach plague proportions in just weeks. Themselves, alive, they are harmless to fish and inverts but they will eventually cover and kill your corals. If you have a relative few in your tank you can...

    Berghia Nudibranches

I just ordered some. All my research plus talking with the scientist at the place that has the berghia, I learned that it might take up to a year or more to get rid of ALL the aiptasia. I learned (and noticed) that when you use something like joe's juice it kills the one you zap but before the...

    Berghia Nudibranches

We have a 180 gallon reef tank. There has been an outbreak of the dreaded aiptasia in the display tank.....like 30 or so aiptasias. We've been using Joes Juice on the ones we can reach but it's barely effecting the growth. In the sump...geeze there are hundreds and hundreds of aiptasia. I've...

    aptasia

You put the joes juice in it's mouth. It kills them very quickly. Just use the joes juice like you are hand feeding it....just aim for it's mouth you don't have to inject it any more.

i found this anemone (i think) under my rock

The little flower-like clusters at the bottom of the first pic make me think it might be a coral of some type. It might be worth leaving for a bit to see what it does. Does it move around or is it stationary?

    Feather duster questions

Yes, they do drop their feathers especially when stressed. They are pretty hardy though and it most likely will rebuild it's tube and grow new feathers. We had a flatworm problem in our tank and I inadvertently pulled the whole tube off a fanworm! It was just [hr] and probably really PO'd...

    Ideas on LR Findings?

I believe that the first picture is some sort of a red calurpa. I've seen it for sale on other websites. I had a decorator crab that loved to snip off some and wear a Carmen Miranda hat with it.

Hawaiian Tidepool Critter & a Smokin' Snail

We just got back from a wonderful vacation to Hawaii. It was awesome to say the least. When we were on the Big Island at the Black Beach there were these creatures on the rocks and in the tide pools. Can anyone tell me what these critters are? They were about an inch in diameter. While I'm here...

    Longnose Butterfly's Gross Bump

Wow...that was an awful sore your fish had. I'm sorry for your loss on him he was beautiful. No, the longnose's sore doesn't look like that but your description sure fit. Now the sore is less swollen but it is red and getting bumpy. It follows under the eye and up toward the mouth. I'm...

    Longnose Butterfly's Gross Bump

LOL we took the QT down about 3 weeks ago. It had been up and running for nearly a year with no occupants. If necessary we can use water change water to fill the tank and put some live sand and LR in it. We do 20 gallon water changes on the 180 weekly and the QT/HT is only 10 gallons. If we...
