Water temp has suddenly become a problem for me and I'd appreciate some advice. I noticed my temp reading wasn't working anymore (max of 86 degrees) & assumed it quit working. However, when I got another, it read 90 (so perhaps it is still working, temp > 86)?!!
I've had my tank for years and...
To make a long story short, I have reason to believe a couple of large worms (bristle?) are periodically eating my fish. See attached picture which shows two of them balled up. This was a rare photo as they rarely come out with the lights on. I'd like to get rid of these guys - any suggestions?
I just bought a Green Mandarin today from the LFS and wanted to ask for advice on feeding. The LFS says I should be fine because I have a lot of live rock (135 lb in 90 gal tank) and have been set-up for 1.5 yrs. So I should have copepods.
My question is do others who have mandarins hand...
A swf book I'm reading indicates that tap/city water can probably be used on tanks with no corals. I'm considering trying in my fish only tank. They said the key is to aereate, use declorinating drops and to leave water out for at least a week (and of course, quality salt mix).
Regaring...
My local fish store recently issued a "minimum requirements for swf only aquariums." I'd like to ask for feedback on these -do you agree/disagree / follow these? My hunch is some of this is overkill but not sure which.
1-Add PH Buffer to your aquarium at least every 2 weeks
2-Add a good liquid...
I need to add a couple of fish to my 90gal fish-only tank and wanted to ask for suggestions. My preferences (in order) are colorful, active, low maintenance & semi-hearty fish that are the low $ end. Suggestions?
On a related note, how much does shipping cost on swf.com if order is less...
I just got the reef package from swf.com delivered for my fish only tank (40 hermits, 30 snails, 5 emerald crabs, etc...). Am I supposed to feed them anything particular/extra for all these critters or do they just eat stuff already in the tank?
I just got my first bubble algae in my tank after 17 months of new tank. On the posts I've searched, everyone is talking about getting it out manually or getting emerald crabs to eat it.
My question is why? Is it harmful just to leave it alone?
Also - is bubble algae any indication (bad or...
I'm seriously considering buying the 30-90 Gal Reef Package from this website for my 90 gal fish only tank. I've had my tank up over a year but to summarize, have not had the best of luck.
My clean-up crew has been minimal: 5-10 turbo snails with 1 Coral Banded Shrimp. I had a Sally...
I recently took the advice of a friend who uses the filtered water from Wal-Mart for his salt water aquarium. 1-2 weeks later, my yellow tang died and my coral beauty angel has ick! It was from the Culligan machine that has filtered water. Could this be a coincident? Anyone else buy filtered...
I'm considering adding a Queen Angel to my 90 gal Fish only tank. I do have a Coral Beauty and am leaning towards returning it to prevent any angel conflicts. The other inhabitants include:
Occelaris Clown
Strawberry Psuedo/Dottyback
Coral Banded Shrimp
Yellow Tang
Starfish-Basic
Long Tentacle...
I recently determined that my starfish (pictured in my header) is killing/eating my snails (Turbo/Astrea). He seems to crawl on top of them and smother them before sucking them out for dinner!
I found a couple of jumbo snails that I think are too big for him to do this on but have noticed...
I read that your supposed to give your Yellow Tang some Veggie Sheets periodically so I bought some. I've tried putting it in four times now just like the directions say (on the clip). My fish don't go near it so I remove after a couple of hours. According to the package, the food is ideal...
I just bought a Long Tentacle Anenome. How & what are you supposed to feed it?
I understand they need strong lighting - I have the basic factory lights. I have them on a timer for about 10 hrs/day - should I extend the time I leave them on?
As far as I know, the only way to feed my star (basic - pictured in my Avatar) is to put some food directly under him on the bottom of the tank. Any other method results in the fish stealing the food. After doing several times (once a week), I'm growing tired of it.
My Tank is a 90 Gal...
