    Help with clownfish.

I'd set up a QT, purely because if you do want to try treatment it won't kill anything else in the tank (i.e. invertebrates). I can't identify it, can't really see from the pictures and i'm not that good at diseases, but the diseases moving quickly also depends on the health of the fish before...

    High alkalinity..

I love Hydor, they are the shizzle. I have their Slimskim in my tank, and it is brilliant. So much that when I get a tank with a sump, i won't want to hide it in there! I went with All Pond solutions for my ext. filter, purely because of price, but that's quite good too! Will upgrade to a...

    High alkalinity..

So you can't really have too high? I don't have any as such, but I have my internal filter output, which is quite high, and my external filter has a massive spray bar which runs across most of the tank, and is from a filter which is made for a tank 5X the size of mine, meaning the flow is really...

    High alkalinity..

    Is too high bad?

    High alkalinity..

No it's 100% normal, it won't die off for a few more weeks, there's nothing you can do about it, and any treatments aren't necessary and probably will do more harm than good. If you're worried, get a sea hare, he'll eat through all the algae in no time, but you'll probably want to either get one...

    High alkalinity..

Haha, i think what i've learnt is definitely that if you can stand to wait for stuff to happen (like algae growth and waiting to add fish) it helps you avoid so many problems. Still doesn't affect what i do though, no patience whatsoever :')

    High alkalinity..

I found that the reason was because i was using 8.2 buffer, which increases the KH, apparently if you make sure the calcium, KH and magnesium levels are right, you can avoid using the buffer, which is good! On a tangent, what is purple up?

    High alkalinity..

Sorry to jump in on this, I'm having the exact same problem! I finally bought a red sea coral kit (Regretting it, the most complex thing ever, I miss my APIs, don't care if they're inaccurate!), Mine was 17!

    SeeCrabRun's first reef

Completely irrelevant, but i have that exact same scoop, which i also use for tank-relate purposes, despite the fact that it is a pasta colander.

    Green algae good or bad?

It's natural, I went through the same thing, it will generally cycle through different algae in the first couple of months, i think it has something to do with the fact that you'll have brought it all in on live rock, and as the tank conditions change, different algae thrive (I Think!)

    Tangs & Seaweed

Ah right, I know it doesn't help with it, but I did read somewhere that it makes the fish stronger, so it would help stop them dying if they did get it (but who know, i've read a thousand things about fish that turned out to be false) I'll have a look out, I think they only had the two i bought...

    Tangs & Seaweed

Not entirely sure of the type, it's just labelled as 'green marine algae' which is why i wondered if they would be alright on green hair :) It's by Ocean nutrition, and it has garlic extract which is always a plus (especially as mr regal tang gets white spot at the slightest noise) I've got...

    Tangs & Seaweed

They just said that if we still wanted it then we could have him back, otherwise they'd put him up for sale. I'd have felt rude asking them to keep it after they'd just completely cured him :) Plus my emotional attachment to him made me not want another one :)

    Tangs & Seaweed

No the yellow tang wasn't in when I had the regal, when he got ill i took him back (assuming it was white spot), and a few days later bought the yellow tang instead, assuming that the regal would die of (what i thought was..) white spot. They actually seem to get on, they swim with each other...

    Tangs & Seaweed

Hi, I have a yellow and Regal tang, and I'm not sure if i need to feed them the seaweed strips that I got from my LFS. They haven't really touched them (that i can tell), and the yellow tang seems to be quite content to eat the algae on the rock - would this suffice for the seaweed that they...

    Made the leap!

Ah right, I may or may not get one then, I love my snails more than half my fish for some reason, so I would be very upset if they did snuff it :(

    Made the leap!

I've done that before actually, my LFS rents them for £5 (with a deposit of course), as for the emerald crabs, Are they okay with other tank mates? I had to get rid of my hermits because they attacked a snail. (I did my research of course, and put loads of extra empty shells in, but they clearly...

    Made the leap!

Oh and on that note, something that doesn't kill the red/purple algae, which i think is absolutely stunning, and from what i've red is not harmful in the slightest

    Made the leap!

I don't mind it so much, as all my levels are in check, it's when it starts growing in the sand that it bothers me. I've got 5 nassarious snails for that though, a serrated shrimp lobster, and a giant orange marbled snail. Can you recommend the best invert for hair algae? I've tried pulling it...

I've got about 10 snails, the algae is on its way down, i'm working on it
