    Cool Money Saving Tips...

+1 on the buying the one or two pieces of live rock and the rest base rock. You can buy regular sand from like home depot too. Forget which one you want though, there are a few posts you can search for on here where it'll tell you the exact kind you want. Buy the biggest tank you can afford and...

    Tang Questions

I think 200 for those two tangs should be sufficient, I've seen more in smaller tanks without incident of fighting or stress. If I were you I'd put the hippo in the 200 simulatneously with the powder blue. That way they have an equal chance to establish themselves with the least amount of...

Seriously? Has anyone seen this video??

Nice responses. I have to say so far I agree with both of you as you guys make some pretty sound arguments. I was just thinking of this after I posted last night, the colors on the artificial coral may be very bright now, but UNLIKE real coral, good luck trying to keep those colors shining...

    FT. Sill, Oklahoma members?

So I'm spending a few weeks here at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for some training and wanted to see if there are any members on here from the Lawton (or Oklahoma in general) area. I have my car and wanted to check out some local fish stores. However, in Lawton there doesn't seem to be very many. Anyone...

Seriously? Has anyone seen this video??

So I was searching for some nice reef tanks on youtube and came across this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-pl_sM_p-o Seriously? They are making some pretty "eyebrow raising" implications that our hobby has deteriorated our world's reef and that there artificial corals are more...

    Tiny Hippo Tang

Here's the experience I've had with Hippos. I wouldn 't venture to say they aren't a hardy species when in fact they actually are. HOWEVER, I believe they are a very touchy species only at the beginning of acclimation to your tank. I've had ultra small, medium and large sized hippos at one...

This hobby is hazardous to your health :(

i like the two hole idea. However I'm having a little trouble understanding where those two holes go. From your pictures it appears that they are drilled a slight bit higher than the water level in your sump. I.E. water drains down from your tank to your sump, but before exiting into your sump...

    How much longer?

Your cycle was well on its way to completion but you added the yellow tail damsel. What was happening was your biological filtration was balancing out with the amount organics in your tank. When you added the fish, the ammonia spiked back up because there wasn't enough bacteria colonized to...

So, should I get a crab?

So I've been thinking getting a crab might be a nice new addition to my reef. Haven't really decided on the type, probably an emerald or sally lightfoot. I just want something that's going to assist my clean up crew. Only thing holding me back is the memory of my horrible freshwater crab... It...

Check out my 10 AGA Reef Ready

I'll get the camera later today and post some pictures. The sump isn't the type with baffles, its basically just a 10 with my skimmer and media reactor hanging off it, a HOB filter, a heater, and the return pump. I know, not too exciting but it's functional lol.

I had 3 green chromis' disappear over the course of 2 months. I have 3 clowns a hippo tang and a yellow tang. They didnt jump, and they were NOWHERE to be found. I have no clue till this day what happened to them, if it was water quality I'm sure my tangs would have been the first to go but my...

Oceanic vs. Instant Ocean Reef Crystals

I have been using oceanic salt for over a year now and was wondering if anyone has used this brand AND Instant Ocean Reef Crystals to give me a good quality comparison. I know its long shot but if anyone has tested the trace elements of both these brands newly mixed with ro/di water that would...
