I have like a million of those in my 14g nano. They hide in the sand and rocks during the day. You couldn't fine one during the day if you had to, but about 15 minutes before the lights go off they start appearing out of nowhere. Then the tank if filled with them. They breed like mad aslo.

54g Corner DIY Reef Wall w/ DIY Rock

Whew... finally. Installed DIY reef wall. I'm pretty happy with the results. Ok, some background. When I started this tank, I knew I wanted to give DIY live rock a try. I also saw a few examples of tanks where people built reef walls out of rock + eggcrate + black expanding pond foam. I...

Octopus NWB 110 In-Sump v. DNWB External Recirculating

Ok. I am currently still building a 54g corner reef. So I ordered an Octopus NWB-110 In-Sump skimmer that I was planning to place in one of the 3 sections of my 10g DIY Fuge/Sump [Skimmer ||| Return ||| Fuge]. Space is very limited in my stand, so an in-sump skimmer seemed like a requirement...

    JoeZimm's 54g Corner Reef Build

Good to know Bulldog. Thanks. Update: Well, I picked up all the stuff I needed for my DIY Rock experiment yesterday. Things didn't go quite as planned. I mixed 1 part Portland, 3 parts Crushed Oyster (washed), 1 part Quickrete medium utility sand (whiter and cleaner than regular Play sand)...

    JoeZimm's 54g Corner Reef Build

Ok, got the Rio open. It was pretty easy. Basically the wheel and magnet are pretty well worn out. The wheel appears to be worn down inside pretty well and it wobbles at a funny angle. Also, the shaft inside the magnet thingie has worn away on the inside and it wobbles quite a bit too. Oh...

    JoeZimm's 54g Corner Reef Build

Update No new pics yet. Nothing really to show. Did a fill test and ran the whole system for a couple hours on Sunday. No leaks and the return pump is fine. Skimmer pump only runs if you hit it a couple times. Also scrubbed out everything in the sump but the pumps. Not sure if they can...

    JoeZimm's 54g Corner Reef Build

Hey all. Ok, so here's the story. I've been looking to upgrade my 14g biocube to something a little more substantial. Well yesterday I was out tank hunting and found a used 54g Corner Reef Ready tank at one of my LFSs that they purchased from one of their customers recently who was moving. It...

    id please

Looks like a starburst coral that isn't doing very well. Also, if it starts to open up more, keep an eye on its tentacles. They flow out in the current several inches (min get up to 4-5") and can sting other coral. I place mine in an area that keeps it out of reach of anything it might bother...

    Hitchhiker... clam?

Ah. Ok, with that then, here is what I found. Lopha cristagalli. Indo-Pacific My hermits may be an issue. They may pick at any exposed flesh. It eats lots of Phytoplankton. Thanks for the info. We'll see how it goes.
