    Mantis Shrimp - 'Video Clip'

larger ones CAN hurt humans. I posted something about them a LONG time ago and it was about some guy who went diving... he saw one that was about 6 inches long, tried to grab it, and it tore up his hand pretty bad if I remember correctly. The guy lost his thumb. Try a search for my name and see...

    Sally attacking Clarkie

Larger sally's will eat fish if they can catch them. I think your fish died in that case and the sally just rummaged around for it. usually the fish are smart enough to stay away. You might try handing your sally a meaty piece of food to munch on before you feed your anemone... hopefully he'll...

2 dead crabs in a week, causes???

This may sound stupid, but it says you "matched the salinity". did you add salt to the water you used to top off? Just asking... If so, your salinity may be enough to kill some inverts but not the fish. Only the water evaporates, not the salt, so all you need to do is add water... without salt...

    Flame Angel or Coral Beauty???????????

I'd go with the fairy wrasse... they're sharp. Why take the chance with the flame? Everything I've read says no way jose. But who knows. Each animal is different.

    good deal

well good luck moving it. Also, IMHO most of the fun with corals is picking your own, not cleaning up after who knows did god knows what to them. The move might stress and kill most of them as you're going to haver to disassemble everything. Depends on how sensitive they are. The equipment...

who thinks i've got too many

Isn't about 10 gallons per fish a good judgement on average? Unless of course you know the species requires lots more room like the tangs.

    ordering vs seeing

I have a question as to ordering corals. For example... Let's say I am thumbing thru a book and fall in love with a particular specimen... For example... Heliofungia actiniformis (Plate Coral). I have seen these light blue with neon blue tips, creme with pink tips, clear with white tips etc...

Toxin help... the more the merrier...

Ok so I been reading my butt off and I found in E.B.'s book on corals that most softies give off a toxin. Makes sense to me. I also read that these toxins can harm stonies. I also noticed that most of your pictures that have been posted do contain a vast array of beautiful corals. Is there a...

    Refugium placement?

I have read several things about refugiums, but which is better idea? Should you place it in you pipe BEFORE your skimmer (if you have one)For example... let your tank overflow into it, then into your sump. Or should you put it right before your return? If you do the latter, does this help get...

    ran across this...

Thought it was funny that it made headlines. Kinda got scared tho when I read about the 10 inch mantis mangling that divers finger so bad it had to be amputated. <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/killershrimp010105.html"...

    Stubborn Anemone!

Well, that kinda stinks, but you have the right idea imho. If he went back there, he liked it back there. If you change the water and or lighting he might move somewhere else. He won't move if he likes it, and if he likes it he should be ok. Unless he's stuck. can you reach in there and get him...

    Worried about starfish eating corals

from what I've been reading, here and abound. It seems that GREEN brittles will eat fish and maybe even nibble on corals (rare) but , the red serpent or ruby brittle seems to be good. I don't know why this one is more peaceable than the green, but it seems that way. Course there are exceptions...

    anenomies

Whats the skinny? I heard they like to move alot. Will they eventually stay in one place? Is there anyone who has had luck keeping one put? how? I ask this because i am looking into species that pretty much require them. sexy shrimp might not survive without one. Also i would love a home for...

    thor amboinensis

or commonly known as "sexy shrimp" because its tail is always held up. Anyone have one of these? I have a ton of questions about rare or no too common inverts I'd like to dabble in and apparently, no one has any experience with them. Are they reef safe? I think so. any opinions? They like...

    ruby brittle

I'm gonna try and read more on them and see if they lose/gain color thru their life cycle. Maybe adults are all red or vice versa. Hell maybe females are the pretty ones. We'll see.

    ruby brittle

yeah i know how that goes, But I HATE AOL. I found this out about them. ( ruby brittles ) I guess the common name is red serpent star which I have seen, but the pictures i see of them when they are referred to as "ruby brittles" is a much nicer specimen. Al beit if you search for the scientific...
