    Help with phosphates

I've been fighting green hair algae for months now. My phospates are high, despite keeping up with water changes. The green hair seems to grow on any part of the rock that doesn't have corraline growing. Also the green algae grows on my sand bed and on the walls of the tank. Anyway, i've...

    dead live rock

I've installed a RO/DI unit for all replenishment water. I don't overfeed. The only thing I did was replaced my light. I had 4- 40watt bulbs in a 114 gallon tank. I now use 4-110 watt VHO lights. The bulbs are new. I've been thinking about just going back to the cheap lights because I...

    dead live rock

Ok, here's the deal. I was having a problem with hair algae and I fought it and fought it. Finally one day I was pissed, so I took all the live rock out, cleaned it with the water hose outside and let it sit in the sun a few hours before I put it back. Yeah, I know, that was stupid, and I...

    3 deaths in 3 hours

I had about 50 pounds of live sand in the tank originally, we moved into a new home 7 weeks ago so I moved the tank then. When I moved the tank, I added another 50lbs of live sand so really it had only been about 8 weeks since all the sand had been moved. I checked the pH level it was fine. I...

    3 deaths in 3 hours

I thought about that, but I used the same toothbrush I always use to scrub the rock. For the life of me I just can't figure out what happened.

    3 deaths in 3 hours

I had a bit of an algae bloom in my 115 gallon tank, so saturday I go to the LFS and buy some saltwater, then go hom and start scrubbing the live rock to get off the algae. Then I use that siphon thingamajig to vacuum the sand and get some water out. I then replace only 7 gallons of water with...

    melting mushrooms???

My water parameters are good, I have had a algae bloom lately, but even that has subsided in the last few days, now the shrooms. Its weird too, because the 2 or 3 shrooms doing it are on opposite ends of the tank.

    melting mushrooms???

Ok, here's a new one on me. I came home from work yesterday and saw that out of maybe 25-30 mushrooms of various kinds, I had 3 that were as wilted as could be. They literally looked like had melted. I've never seen anything like it. Any ideas????

    sump refugium question

Yes, there is some room for me to work down there. I suppose, I just rework the plumbing to get some water flow in there. I need to search the web and find some pics to see how people have rigged them up. Thanks too the both of you. Very informative. Who would have thought when I woke up...

Could I simply place some caulerpera or macro algae in my sump, with a flourescent light or do I actually have to use a seperate unit to be used as the refugium? Also, what kind of light would I need? 40 watt flourescent ok?

    invaded by crown anenomes

I know exactly what those things are. I had the same problem about a month ago. They almost took over my tank. If they are mostly concentrated on a couple of rocks I took the rocks out and hosed them off outside, then let the rocks sit outside for a few days. If they aren't concentrated on a...

    Das aquarium lighting

Anyone out there know of a good way to use metal halide lighting and still retain the stock lids that come with DAS tanks? I've looked online forever for a way to increase my lighting but still keep the tank covered with a sort of lid to keep my evaporation down. For months I had the lids off...
